campy vs. vuelta wheels
Hey everyone. Having a bike made for me and can't decide on a wheelset to buy. Bike will have full Record components and will be used mainly for climbing and long distances. Trying to keep the price somewhat low but want good wheels. Any info would be appreciated.

Campy wheels are just plain beautiful. Also, you're already running full Record, might as well stick with the Campy theme.

Neutrons are good, but the price won't be what I'd call "low". Protons are a good choice for less $.
Also, you could have a sew-up set built for you with something like Ambrosio Chono rims, Hugi hubs, and depending on your weight, the lightest DB spokes you can get.

Since this board is dominated by US posters I doubt you will get much input on Vuelta wheels, since they are almost nonexistent in the US. I've heard of them and seen them on one or two bikes, and wondered what they were. I think you will find that Campy wheels are highly regarded.

I actually have a set of Vuelta wheels. Not their high liners. Campy 9 with 32 spoke semi-aero rims. Bomb-proof but heavy, not what you're looking for I'd imagine. I knownothing about the rest of their offerings. Sorry.

Well if you're going with TOP components, check out Campy BORA wheels...They aren't cheap...but if you've got full Record, I assume that's not an issue.

If I wanted lower cost, mainly climbing and longer-distance wheels, a custom tubular set would fit the bill nicely. They wouldn't cost as much as factory-built, high-zoot wheels like Neutrons or Eurus', would be plenty light, and being tubulars would ride better over the long hauls.
