Alligator I Link cable system problems
Anyone have issues with this kit? I bought the internal brake kit, at the recommendation of Fairwheel Bikes, and since I have internal cable routing on my SL. Last night while attempting to install it, I notice that the length of I Links is considerably short. As in about 5" short. It also came with some normal 5mm cable housing which I thought was strange since it's supposed to be all I Link. At least that's what I thought.
Am I supposed to use the normal 5mm housing for the bars and add the I Link to that to run everywhere else? As for the shifting system, the kit doesn't come with the proper 4mm ferrels to fit properly into the shifters (Campy) so the ferrel that is in the kit is just pushed up against the shifter body. Am I missing something here? I figured that spending that kind of money on a cable system it would first be a pretty straight forward install, and that it would come with the proper pieces. Oh and did I mention that the so-called instructions that are included, are completely worthless. Please help! |
Eh... Return them and just use standard Shimano/Jagwire or in your case, Campag cable kit IMO.
I've used the ultra slick, sealed etc cable sets in the past, so over them. Now I just go to the local shop, tell them I need cables and housing. Half the price of whatever set I can get on eBay or Amazon. I don't care if it's jagwire, sram, or shimano, they all shift great. Now that even ALU bikes have internal cabling, no need for these sealed systems. My 2cents regarding the obnoxiously expensive cabling kits. |
Jagwire kits come with flexy brake cable outer for the bars and the stiffer stuff for the rest of the run. The flexy stuff goes under the bar tape and connects by a special ferrule to the stiffer outer. By analogy, my guess is that the I-Link doesn't do well under the bar tape, so you should use the standard outer cable for that then continue with the links after the taped area. Is there possibly a ferrule supplied (for each side) that would make a smooth transition between the links and the standard outer cable. Finding that would be the clincher (pun) it seems to me.
