It's one of those old school rule of thumb things for frame fit. There's a lot of variables involved and some prople think that it's totally bogus. I have two road bikes and a road tandem, however, and the handlebar hides the hub on all of them regardless of if my hands are on the brake hoods or on the drops.

If the bars obscure you from seeing the hub when riding in your normal position you are fine. If you can see the hub in front of bars = longer stem, behind bars = shorter stem. This is all relative though, if you only see a bit of hub, you are probably fine. If it is way in front of the bars or way behind the bars is when you think about changing stems. BTW, do you feel cramped or stretched out on your bike when in normal riding position?
