I'm using the 2005 R550's that came stock on my R700 and haven't had any complaints so far. Then again, this is my first road bike, so I can't offer any *real* constructive advice.

The R550, as I recall, is the updated R540. They're pretty sturdy wheels for such a low spoke count. My LBS has sold several bikes with them and has had no problems. One of my friends is 265 lbs and rides them with no complaints. They're not the lightest in the world but they appear to be pretty decent wheels.
