Might have to go check out these guys and their manly beers tomorrow. Holy moly, them's some strong beers.

9) Nefarious Dark Belgian Quad (ABV= 9.2/IBUs= 32)
A little darker and a little more raisins and more dark malts. This blend of European malts combines to form a rich but smooth dark ale fermented with Belgian Yeast.

10) Czech Your Mind Imperial Pilsner * (ABV= 9.2 / IBUs= 28)
Dominated by Pilsner malt w/ a dash of Vienna, & enough IBU’s to balance it out and keep it in the Pilsner theme. Brewed for maximum fermentablility to keep it from being sweet.

11) N’erotic Belgian Strong Ale (ABV= 10.2 / IBUs= 28)
Our Belgian ale from the trippel family. Smooth, malty and higher alcohol than you’d think when you drink it.

12) Erin Go Bock (Aged) * (ABV= 7.5/ IBUs= 28)
Brewed with British Specialty malts, Continental base malt & Tettnang hops, plus some Special B malt. We bring you this cross between an Irish Red & traditional Bock. Nice and caramelly, but clean.

13) Satan’s Gut Imperial Stout (ABV= 8.0/ IBUs= 60.123)
Brewed with Smoke malts as such: Beechwood, Cheery & Beechwood malts. We then added some roasted Poblano, Jalapeno, Fresno and Ancho peppers.

14) Kaiserlich Dunkleweiss (ABV= 7.0 / IBUs= 22)
A dark wheat beer with lots of flavor and 7% alcohol. This beer lives up to its name Kaiserlich, German for Imperial.

15) Hanging Belay Imperial IPA ( ABV= 9.0 / IBUs=101)
With a malt bill featuring light crystal malts, a hint of Honey, and Chocolate malts, this IPA is highlighted by Simcoe and Cascade hops.

A pint of any of those would probably have me pleasantly buzzed. It's good to be a lightweight.

I was at a medical staff meeting last night (with an open bar), and I could not help but notice that pretty much everyone was drinking a beer, a cocktail, or a glass of wine.

I was drinking ice water. Am I missing out on anything??

A temporary but pleasant numbness to the present administration?

Just an old pal and another few Deep Eddy's 'iced tea' vodka on ice. Missing out on empty calories and a mild hangover mostly.

Got your three winners right here. Go 11, 9, place your uber ride on your phone, then do 15 and hang on tight.

Driveway KOM"s don't count Pepe.

Decided to go check it out tomorrow. Hopefully will be good. My year isn't *that* big, but it's big enough to strava for a push mower.

That one doesn't look half bad, I may have to try it sometime. But overall I am pretty much meh on alcohol, and drugs too. I consider myself lucky, my sister has an addiction problem (in recovery but it's still one day at a time).

datlas 06-02-17 08:10 AM

Uh oh. I am leading my club's A- ride tomorrow and one of the A riders posted that he will be combining his ride with mine.

There will be suffering.

Pray for my liver.

Especially since quite unlike you, getting anything done for me involves half-filling a tumbler of vodka.

Get a KOM at The Driveway, though, and you're damn-straight King.

Do you ever sail on the east coast?

We owned a sailboat when we lived in Maine. But we had no money then. We bought the best boat we could afford but it still cost less than our current dinghy.

It was always sort-of sinking, had no instruments beyond a compass, an unreliable outboard with a no-better than 50% start rate, blown out sails and a terrible hull designed (it sailed like a turd).

We had tons of fun sailing that terrible boat though. We never got out of Casco Bay (which is fortunately huge). Man, we'd tear up the coast of Maine in our current, eminently capable boat. I would love to spend a summer sailing the coast of Maine.

Otherwise it's all SoCal really. My husband grew up here and he was a sea scout instead of a Boy Scout, so he's been sailing a long time around here. He had a sail boat when he lived in Hawaii actually, but that one was perpetually sinking too.

We had big aspirations for world cruising but now we're not so sure. We like the incredibly easy sailing here- no currents, mostly benign weather, negligible tides. If I wasn't so tied to work, I could see taking some time to explore the Pacific Northwest and Alaska and also Mexico.

Not so sure about jumping across the Pacific, the big problem being getting back. We might be inclined to pop through the Panama Canal first, explore the Caribbean and then head up the US east coast.

But that's all theoretical unless we win the lottery. Plus: no cycling.

I'm odd, kids and wife went to Culver's tonight, didn't even ask me to go....I wouldn't have minded a custard:mad:

"Can't afford to fight"? You and me both.

At any rate, BadgerMe is quite a Wind in the Willows sort of thing.

Ah yes ... the common loon -- a noble bird indeed:lol: Fortunately, I can lay claim to my provincial bird's being Steller's Jay (B.C.) -- often described as 'lively, smart, cheeky'. That said, I often do feel that in my work environment I'm involved in an endless episode of Spot the Looney.

Nope. We are chill cruiser types.

For you cyclists, cruising is the touring of the boating world.

We are members of a big racing club though. We put on races for all size boats, from dinghies to 70 ft big open ocean boats. We've volunteered on our club's Race Committee but my bike racing has pretty much taken the place of that nowadays. Our club probably hosts 8 or so regattas each year, plus a Wednesday night race series in the summer.

The racing people really infuse a great vibe to the club. They value skilled smart sailors, regardless of racing status or financial status- haha they just see everybody else as potential crew. :)

So true in my experience! My racing was years (decades:eek:) ago now. Started with Enterprise, moved on to 5o5. I also crewed on beautiful Int'l 6 Metre boats in longer (2 day, i.e. overnight) races. We'd a small but very nice fleet of these in the PNW area back in the mid/late '60s. We did cruise a lot as well throughout the Gulf Islands, usually 'borrowing' someone's dad's boat.

'Covfefe' OK for Words With Friends

You should do one of those petitions of academics demanding that covfefe not be granted word status.

Fascinating! Does raise an interesting point, though, having to do with rates of linguistic change: is 'social media' in fact accelerating linguistic change(s), especially in English? An equally interesting collateral question: has 'social media' reversed the order of influence over linguistic change between 'speech' and 'writing'?

Some would argue yes on both counts.

We chartered boats with a group of friends in the Pacific Northwest a few years ago, out of Anacortes. Went all through the San Juan Islands and up into Canada- Victoria, Vancouver Island, Vancouver city, I forget where else. It was a great trip, I'd love to go back there.

This is me, goofing around as we came into Victoria:

Social lubrication for dates. I don't live in New York any longer so I've dialed back the drinking to social only - and limited social at that. Drinking just makes me tired too easily.

Related note: the newly-minted 6-year-old and I will be taking sailing lessons this summer - really looking forward to it. He's gotta take some swim lessons over the next few weeks and then we start towards the end of the month.
