Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Celebrity Endorsement of a sort

Came across a charming story in social media feed this morning. I was aware that Marcel Kittel had appeared at a local shop recently for an event to celebrate its remodeling,
but I wasn't aware of the little ride he took while he was in town. Seems he met a couple of folks at the shop, and they rode up River Road and then up to The Market for a coffee. Just like me,
and scores of other people I know. Seems he liked it and was surprised such a nice ride was so close to the city. I know the little ride up to The Market is hardly anything to write home about, and maybe he was just being polite, but to think that it's good enough to satisfy the likes of Marcel Kittel makes me think that the regular rides in our 'hood - the kind of ride I might do on a weekday morning before work maybe - are "world class"

Cool page over a ride. I think its great when these guys come out unexpected. I like the unexpected part, as it rewards the regulars.
We get a few in SoCal on the Swamis and Como rides - for training, not just hanging out like that.
Cav, Sagan and a few other Domo type world tour riders do to those rides in the off season.
