Tire Repair
 

On this mornings ride I hit a sharp rock with the front tire and cut it. The cut is only about a 1/4 inch long but I only had about 20 miles on that tire. Typically I would toss the tire and buy another but this being a new Conti Ultra Gatorskin if there is a way to confidently repair it I would like to do so. Anyone repaired a tire that lasted long term?

Would you really feel safe blazing down a steep descent??

If the cut is only in the rubber, you can probably fill it up with super glue or something, keep an eye on it, use it in the rear.

If the cut is through the casing... nothing's going to hold it for very long on a high pressure tire.

Take another worn tire case/sidewall about 1" and put it inside over the hole.

Thanks for the responses, much appreciated. I'm a bit embarrassed to admit after I got the tire cleaned up I couldn't find the slit inside or out after I put my reading glasses on. When I pulled the tube, you guessed it, I had a snake eye pinch. Tire was properly inflated but I'm not exactly a light weight and hit the rock pretty hard. I saw it just as I hit it and it looked sharp on top so my mind went right to a cut tire and tube when I thought I saw a cut in the new tire without my cheaters.
