Cannondale Supersix EVO 2017 vs Stevens Izoard Pro 2016

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cannondale Supersix EVO 2017 vs Stevens Izoard Pro 2016

Hi,

New to the forum. Have this big question in my head right now and I hope to find some answers here.

I am looking to buy my first race/road bike and ended up with those 2 choices (in the title name).
Because I cannot post links to the bikes you can find them in google searching for the names.

My thoughts on both:

The Cannondale EVO 105
BallisTec Carbon, Shimano 105, from 2017, a little more then 8 kg weight, costs around 2600 USD, good looking bike (all black), well-known brand

The Stevens Izoard Pro
Carbon SL Fiber, Ultegra components, from 2016, 7.5 kg weight, costs around 2400 USD, orange/blue/black frame

Not sure which carbon frame is better. The Stevens has better spec and lower price but I haven't heard anything about them before I found it in the local store (Denmark).

Any thoughts will be apprenticed.

I guess Stevens bikes are not really famous outside West Europe. They are German brand assembled in Hamburg, founded 27 years ago. This is everything I know about them.
Here the choice is more or less - should I go with a famous brand (at least for me) like Cannondale, Scott, etc. or no.
I can imagine that it won't matter much for me coz it will be my first race/road bike so I doubt I won't like it whatever I get.

Whichever you think looks nicer. If that's the Cannondale for you, then do that.

An assistent in one of the local shops I went some weeks ago said similar thing - to choose the bike by look And also that bikes under $3000 are more or less entry level bikes.

Haha, entry level, quite the opposite! 105 and Ultegra both function extremely well and are extremely durable - once you start paying more all you get is a tiny bit less weight on the bike.

The Cannondale comes with Mavic wheels, the Stevens with DT Swiss. I haven't tried the specific DT Swiss but I have tried the Mavic and other DT Swiss wheels. Personally, I would expect to kill the Mavics within a few months but be able to use the DT Swiss for the normal life time.

I know for 2016 the 105 group set received 2015 Ultegra's upgrade. Not sure if the 2016 Ultegra set was updated or not, but you are likely not to be able to notice the difference anyway. I have no issues with my 2016 Synapse Carbon Disc 105.
Also I would consider parts availability when chosing between these two brands. Even though Cannondale is not known for best customer service, still it is a local brand with parts warehouse in the US. Not sure what the support is for Stevens brand.
1lb weight difference a factor? Not for me. I can loose that much by skipping dinner one night.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thanks to all for the comments, these days I will go and try the Stevens.
Unfortunately, I cannot test the Cannondale, coz the local shop doesn't have it in my size. We'll see.

I don't know a ton about Stevens, but they sponsor some very talented cyclocross racers, and have a few Euro road teams riding their frames. I would buy one if the price is right.

6800 Ultegra > 5800 105, but either perform very well.
