$1007 for Ultegra 8000??

Wow! That seems like an awful lot for my taste. It's a good looking group, but man, that's too much IMO.

What say you?

DrIsotope 06-29-17 04:41 PM

Dura Ace 9100 is $1500. I don't know which is more ridiculous.

Abe_Froman 06-29-17 05:11 PM

$400 for 105 on the british sites seems like a better deal...

smarkinson 06-29-17 05:58 PM

$1,400 list price for 8000 compared to $1,400 list price for 6800. I'm not sure what the problem is. Are you upset that you aren't getting 50% off on a brand new groupset?

Danny01 06-29-17 08:10 PM

Not surprised. It was made available for sale today. It will come down, just like 6800 and 9000 did.

TimothyH 06-29-17 08:29 PM

I don't understand why everyone is so shocked at the price. Did anyone think it would be cheap?

The group is a horrible value right now but I'm more interested in the individual components, especially GS derailleur support for 34 tooth sprockets and interoperability of cassettes between MTB and Road groups.

FSA has released a sub-compact adventure crank and SRAM has supported 36 tooth cassettes for a long time. It seems like Ultegra would be a great fit for products like this to satisfy older riders and the performance oriented adventure/gravel riders.

Shimano's support for slightly larger cassettes and interchangeablity is a step in the right direction but I wish they would jump in with both feet.

With a glued together crank, at that.

I'd give $500 for it.

Just a little hard to believe that it should be over 1k.

I'd rather have Chorus for less than $900.

Give it time.

You seem to grasp exactly why people are shocked at the price?

datlas 06-30-17 04:20 PM

Point of reference: I bought a full Ultegra 6700 group shortly after it was launched and shopped online for the cheapest price I could find, which was roughly $1000 back in 2009. Agree price may come down next year.

Definitely

All I'm interested in is the FD. Hopefully $50 shipped.

LOL...and that is UK pricing...which USA pricing is typically 30% more expensive than.

And lest we forget, the 9100 power meter crankset alone is $1,400. That's like 80% of the cost of my whole bike.

John00 07-01-17 08:59 PM

Do they make Ultegra group sets in silver anymore? I have a titanium bike and a black group set would look like crap.

Are you asking a question or making a statement?

Yup

I wouldn't expect CLEARANCE SALE pricing on a groupset that's not even available everywhere yet. That's dumb. If you want the latest, "first on your block" stuff, you generally have to pay full price. iPhones and new cars are ridiculously expensive on intro day, too.

6800 is available for $750 in the U.S. That's a great value!

533.00 with free shipping if you order it from the U.K.... that is how I got mine for my recent (and first) build.

Ultegra Di2 group set is around 1100.00 from the U.K. right now...
