Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Standard Center Mount Vs Direct Mount Brakes

Hello,

I have been doing a lot of research in different bikes and the Trek 2018 with 105 Direct Mount brakes has peaked my interest.

My question is this, what are the differences between Center mount and Direct Mount Brakes? Maintenance, adjustment, pros, cons, and so on.

Save a few grams, look a bit sleeker, maybe a bit stiffer?

Direct mount are strictly better. Slightly better braking, lighter, and better tire clearances.

Doesn't mean that center mount are excellent. How much extra their worth is an open question.

It doesn't matter, you don't get a choice. Your frame either supports direct mount or it doesn't. And I certainly would not choose a frame based on it either. You can fit 28mm tires on both, they both work fine and have the same limitations.
