Neck Pain
Hi everyone,
This is my first visit to your forum and upon acquiring my first road bike just a couple of months ago I find that I have neck pain after riding. I stretch my neck prior to riding although still get the pain.
What can I do?
For reference, I'm 5' 10", 155 lbs and my bike is a Cannondale Synapse 56.
Thank you

Neck pain while bicycling is often caused by poor core strength. Same goes for shoulder pain, wrist pain, hand pain. Sometimes adjusting your bike fit can help a little (eg, moving your saddle lower and further back), but there is no substitute for working on your core strength.

Neck Pain
Wow,
Two great suggestions!
I will get to work on them both.
Forgot to mention from the limited road biking I have done----------- I love it!
Thanks for your help.

I recently was having bad neck pain, and it started right after I bought a new helmet that has a visor. I was craning my neck to see under that visor. I stopped doing that and the neck pain disappeared.

Good suggestions above. I would also suggest that the OP make sure that his saddle is not too much nose down, but rather in a flat position. Nose down will put much more weight on your hands and wrists and force you to look up much more and your neck will ache.

Not sure I have ever heard of the term "craning". Am I making it more difficult? Same as holding your head up to see in front?

I have arthritis in my neck and have neck pain 24/7, I've learned to live with it as riding doesn't make it much worse.
