Leaking valve at base - Tubulars

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Leaking valve at base - Tubulars

Leaking air at valve base. Vittoria Corsa G+ Speed Tubulars. Less than 2 hours of riding time on these. How to fix?

Probably a puncture, & valve opening is easiest place for air to go.

Try dunking the tire to try and locate bubbles at the tread,

then open & patch that area.

Do they have the valve stem screw on to a short stub? I know Vittoria were making them like that so you could screw on different stems to suit wheel depth, rather than use valve extenders.
If so maybe the stem is just a bit loose.

If you're certain that it's a leak at the valve stem, and you don't have replaceable stems as suggested above, you can have a new tube installed by Tire Alert:

if you have valve extender they may be leaking from between the extender and first valve stem

some tubulars leak at the base of the stem when empty but aired up are fine

tried sealant? I use caffelatex in tubulars

All good answers. No air leaking from the valve extender or from the valve core. Will try Stan's later today. None of my LBS's carry the Effetto Mariposa products. I love their Carogna tape. Will report back later today with results. Fingers Crossed.

With Vittorias if they have been sitting for a bit while not inflated the seal at the base will tend to pass air. Pump them up to high pressure and they almost always reseal within a second or two. it will happen just about every time you go to use them is you aren't using them often.

I have had that problem. Very perplexing. Thanks for the information.

Problem solved. Replaced tire. Tried 4x and 2x it would leak air (under water) at the base. The other times the tire would hold air for 2 days or so. Based on this inconsistency/uncertainly I decided to replace with new. I never want to doubt my equipment. I will try Stan's soon.
