Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Trying to identify this Specialized Road Bike

This bike doesn't have a model name on it. I'm trying to figure out the model and year just to do some more research on it. It's got a Shimano Sora rear derailer and SRAM Rival crank, so it obviously has had some components swapped. Therefore I don't know what was original. This picture is about all I have right now. Anyone know what it is or able to narrow it down for me? With so little information my searches are coming up with nothing. Thanks for the help!

The quill stem and tubing leads me to believe that it may be a early-mid 90's Specialized Allez. Specialized did not start having different sized tubing until around 2000-2001 and that is also when they made changes to the graphics.

Would it say Allez if it was the Allez model? Doesn't look like it was repainted but there's nothing written on the top tube. It does have the S-Works logo on the seat tube and on the front. Does this make a difference? I actually have the bike in hand now but can't find any other identifying features.

It usually does. Does it have the original components? Is the frame lugged or are the weld joints visible? Does it have downtube shifters (or bossess for downtube shifters if the original was replaced? All these would give us an idea of what it is. The closest i can get to that model is the 1998 Specialized Allez M2. I need to see more detailed pics in better light.
