Which Shoe, 3 options
Okay,
My birthday is coming up in less than a month. I am due for a new pair of shoes. I've been riding Shimano R191 for the past 3 years and while they still look okay, the glue is starting to separate on the sides so I am wanting to get something new and semi retire the R191s.
Three options that I am looking into are the following below, all being a Carbon Sole Shoe.
Option 1: Shimano S-Phyre
Option 2: Fizik R1B
Option 3: Mavic Cosmic Ultimate II
The mavic's I was able to barely find any review and information on so I am hoping somebody may pitch in.

The one that fits best.
I did a little shoe shopping a couple months ago - I didn't try on any of the shoes that you list, but I did size the Fizik and Shimano via their slightly lower-spec'd versions (hard to find the more expensive options in-store). The Shimano (RC7, I think) were nice, but the Fizik (R4B) fit my foot like a glove... er, or something like that. They are both moderately wide, but they do cradle/wrap differently. Definitely try both.

The Mavics are homely. The other two are white. Ergo, I say forget them all. Have you looked at what Giro has to offer? They have some really nice looking stuff.

Not one of your 3 choices, but in the same category. I bought a pair of these 2 or 3 years ago and they are far and away the best cycling shoe I have worn.

Usually a Pearl Izumi 45 fits me, but most other brands are too wide. In Mavic shoes a 46 fits perfect, and they run narrower than most others.

I have last gen cosmic ultimate. No complaints. Extremely comfy. The dial system does loosen over the course of the ride that I can tighten it by a notch mid ride. But I don't feel like it actually makes a difference in efficacy. Also think it might be all dial systems, not just mavics

I have tried all of these 3, plus Giro SLX, Giro Empire, Giro Techlace.
Shimano S-Phyre blows all of them out of the water. Key: Stiffness, comfortable and plenty of room in toe box.
I believe it's currently on "sale" at Merlincycles for $323

I just bought the RC7s and I love them. They are a step down but pretty similar to the ones you're looking at.
People were saying to size up but I found that I actually sized down. I normally wear a size 12 shoe and the pair I bought are size 11.2 46s.

The S-Phyre is really popular around my area. And I hear good things from people wearing them.
My wife didn't care for the fit, though. And the material against the heel of your foot is kind of a rough material that I didn't care for. Seemed abrasive.
That said, I'd go Rapha Climber. And they're on sale right now for $300.

They are a great fit for my narrow feet. Not the stiffest sole, but I haven't found that to be a problem once.

Just going by the pictures.... The Fizik was looking slick, but then I noticed it was also a bit boxy and slab-sided (like cheaper shoes) rather than having a more anatomical cross-section more and spherical heel area. That may make for a good fit for some feet, but my feet are shapelier. It may just be the way they are photographed, but the others look better formed.

Thanks for the note, I will put these into a consideration. They look like they are even stiffer than the S-Phyre.
Thanks for the note, I will definitely have to consider that as my standard shoe size is a 48
That seems to be the way I may be leaning. Thanks for the feed back.

Okay,
So, I think I am down to two choices.
1. Shimano S-Phyre (WHITE)
2. Fizik R1B (RED)
here is my dilemma. I am a size 48. No store carries either shoe but I can get them ordered of course. Having said that, am trying to figure out the sizing issue.
My current Shimano R191s are a 48 and fit me well. Is it safe to assume that Shimano will properly size all their shoes evenly, so I can just order S-Phyre in 48?
Local store has Fizik R5B, which I have tried in a 48 and it fit me well. Is it safe to assume that R1B would be same in terms of size.
BTW, the Fizik shoes look a little flat in color, I am curious how well that finish will hold up to elements versus Shimanos plastic-like finish..

Something else to consider is that Shimano has a satisfaction guarantee for I think 30 days. Try them out, and return if you don't like them for any reason.

Shimano sandals
We don't even own another cycling shoe, we love these so much. In cold weather we wear woolen socks with them...and if it's still too cold we stay indoors, heh heh
