Trek Domane ALR impressions?
I'm tempted by he Domane ALR as an all-around, robust bike that won't break my budget. Has anyone here bought or ridden one? How's the frame, is it plenty stiff if you put down some good watts? Used to own a Cannondale Synapse carbon, I know it will be a downgrade but I wonder by how much.

I have nothing to add other than I have been eyeing an ALR Domane Disc myself. The 2018 ALR 5 Disc looks really reasonable with 105 components and hydraulic discs for under $2000.00. I did find this review of last year's ALR 4 Disc, and the author said it still plenty stiff and comfortable, considering it's aluminum and not carbon.

You might also consider the 2018 Specialized Roubaix at $1785, this price point model is new for 2018. Carbon frame and even has the FutureShock front end.
The 2018 models aren't on the Specialized site yet but they've been released:

I have a Trek Domane ALR 3 as my "rain bike", however, it never gets ridden if I'm being honest.
I love my Tarmac so much more than the Domane that it just feels like a waste of time to ride it.
It's a great bike, very smooth, mine is pretty creaky when climbing, I find my Tarmac a lot stiffer and more enjoyable all around, even if it is ever so slightly less comfortable.
Best way to decide is to ride them yourself and see what YOU personally like.

There is a lot of good reviews for the Emonda ALR... But I was asking about the Domane ALR,which has a geometry more suited to my odd proportions

What do you think is the difference between those two? I compared specs, and they're practically identical, except lower stand-over for Emonda... I've tried both Domane (though AL, not ALR) and Emonda... the last one I liked more, so I bought it.

I have a carbon synapse and recently did a test ride on the ALR. I don't think it would be a big downgrade. It was definitely less comfy, felt stiffer and had more road feel. Felt a little "tinny" for lack of a better word. So maybe more "racey" than the comfort I was looking for.
