Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Performance bike + coupons

This is both a question and a comment. Has anyone had any success in getting PB to accept coupon codes at the local store? The policy at the local stores is to only accept physical coupons. My issue is that there is a 20% off coupon code here which is good on all items. PB states that there is a paper version, but I do not have that coupon and without it there is no discount. If anyone knows where I could get it ASAP or have the local store accept the code, please let me know.

The comment is this, their sales staff on the phone is very helpful. If the store will not accept the discount, they definitely can for a phone order and ship me my bike. I just need to provide them an item number and they will take it from there. Of course I cannot easily find the item number for a Giant OCR c2 in medium as none of the stores seem have it in stock, but I will try to go visit a store and tell them my sob story tomorrow. They didn't have any luck finding the item number in the computer system for any of the giant bikes, and the one they gave me printed on the bike didn't match the order systems. Might just require playing with the computer for a bit to figure out exactly what I need.

PS:If you are reading some of the other threads, while I could order the scattante cfr and get ultrega bits immediately, I am just nervous about the fit as I cannot go test ride one (wrong coast). I know the giant fits, so I would rather get that even if i pay a few dollars more. The OCR c2 should be the functional equiv of the CFR in terms of bits and peices, plus it is a triple so comparisons should be made to the triple verison of the cfr.

Although you're not supposed to be able to do so, a friend of mine from work was able to use the 20% off coupon (he did not have a hard copy, only the code) in store last week to by a new XT group for his mountain bike. Not only that, he did a price match to boot. So I guess it all depends on the store and the personnel you're dealing with. All they can say is no, so why not give it a try?

I bought an OCR Comp 2 in medium from Performance about two months ago and it got delivered about 5 weeks ago. The UPC code is 400 011 694 401, serial no. GB5A150. It's currently on sale for $1899. Let me know if it works out for you. It's a sweet bike; ultra smooth. You'll love it.

Ok my frustration levels are going through the roof now. PB.com yesterday stated no problem. Today "absolutely not" for Giant now that I have enough info for them to find it in their system. They will not order the bike and they cannot sell it over the phone or through the online system. All I can do with them now is wait for monday to talk to customer service or find the actual coupon and take it to the store.

If anyone has the

Coupon Code 6001223
OFFER: 20% off of 75.00 or more
Offer Ends: 6/15/05

coupon if it came in a newsletter or something, PLEASE let me know ASAP. The bike is on sale now but will no longer be as of tomorrow. If I can print this out I could take it to the store and get order the bike, but without the printout I am stuck!

If it is a physical coupon and you are in the northern va area and wouldnt mind parting with it, let me know and the next beer is on me.

Thanks,
Scot
