Yeah HHH this year was incredibly mild. I hadn't even gone through 1 water bottle by mile 40. It did warm up about 20 miles later, however, but it wasn't bad at all. The fact that there are rest stops every 10 miles should probably mean that no one wears a hydration pack.
I will say though that there were so many water bottles laying on the road from dummies who couldn't figure out how to put it in their bottle cage that maybe hydration packs aren't so bad of an idea for some.
Did see some weird stuff on that ride...

This... is also part of "the rules":
The Rules lie at the beginning of The Path to La Vie Velominatus, not at the end; learning to balance them against one another and to welcome them all into your life as a Velominatus is a never-ending struggle waged between form and function as we continue along The Path towards transcension.
Just MHO... but I do not believe the "keepers of the cog" intended the.... simple truths of cycling etiquette to be a hassle.

I too broke rule #32 a few weeks ago. Riding around on my 2018 Emonda, new carbon wheels, Garmin....the group of other riders similarly equipped sure were giving me odd looks, hahaha. But hey I was far away from my car and wanted to carry extra supplies.
I've since ordered a top tube bag

This was my issue as well, though I mostly use mine when on the MTB trails.
I did HHH once, many years ago. The temps never dropped below 98 the night before and we hit 104 by about 10 am. By the time I got to the mile 50 rest stop, there was nothing cold left - all ice had melted and they only had hot water to refill bottles. Also, someone crashed bad enough to need to be airlifted out. It was so hot, people were puking on the side of the road and huddling under whatever shade they could find. They closed the race down about two hours early and had to send a series of flatbed semi's out to pick people up and bring them back in. It was awful..

The rules are the rules. There are no exceptions no special dispensations. If you feel you can't follow the rules, then I suggest you see rule #5.

If you have a camelback then you're not a road cyclist.
Please go to the mountain bike forum for now on.

yeah hotter than hell 100, really sounds like " not fun". I don't know why they would do even do this, I guess some years aren't too bad?

But, the ride itself does kinda remind me of those old road rally cartoons with Muttley...

Satire? Harrumph! No one who truly understands and believes The Rules would say that. Either you get it or you don't.

I used one on Saturday. Worked pretty well, except for the tube hitting my leg on every pedal stroke.
Pretty much the hottest that I have ever seen here- Garmin said 112˚ at one point, but it reads high.
I think there was enough HTFUing to cover...

Bah. Unnecessary. I rode the SB250 in June in heat over 100 degrees and had 2 bottles. Filled them when empty. Rode in the peleton the entire way. Drank when thirsty. The need for a camelback is in your head.

You are forgiven. I've been riding a CB without the bladder since 2006. Why? Because I prefer to keep my mini pump, spare tubes, patch kit, etc etc on my back instead of having a frame pump and a large nut sack saddle bag a'swingin' in the wind. But that's just me.
