Alloy brake pads on carbon clinchers?
So I just recently bought a new set of Roval carbon clinchers and was given a set of brake pads which were actually meant for alloy rims. Owner got them mixed up and it resulted in me using an alloy brake pad for a ride a did this morning ~70km. Ink found out halfway through when the brakes started squealing very loudly when I used them. Will this damage my braking surface? If it’s worth anything the alloy brake pads were brand new so I’m certain there’s no metals bits stuck in there.

I've used standard pads (on ultegra brakes) with carbon rims on many an occasion. Only issue was how quickly it wore through the pads.

I will quote some amazing genius from some other thread: "Ask enough people and eventually you will find the same number will say "Yes" and "No," each with a perfectly true story to back up his/her opinion."
My thinking is, the pads sound bad, they are not specially formulated for the braking surface you are using, they Might be doing permanent damage to expensive wheels, and there are pads formulated expressly for the wheels you have. I don't know what sum you get when you add all that up .... I get Post #2.
