Recent Strava rails show junior is riding rather slow. On further analysis/flyby there is a female with him getting her QOMs. His Strava performance was much better when female interests didn't cycle.

Yeah, Phil Gaimon has a lot of them around here. Spotted Taylor Phinney in the top 10 on one of the loops I ride too.
It was kinda cool that the guy who SAGed my ride also SAGed for Phil. |

Strava issue
A couple times I've stopped during a ride and discovered that my phone isn't in sleep mode but instead is showing Safari--thus draining the battery. It appeared Strava was attempting to do an update or sign on via the browser. The first time it also recorded the ride in progress. But yesterday it wasn't recording anything. I closed Safari and rode for about 10 minutes. Made another stop and checked Strava again. The screen was completely black. When I got home and fiddled with it I was able to post the ride. It had only recorded 0.1 miles out of 30, and classified it as a run. Has anyone else had this happen? Is there a feature in Strava that causes it to launch the browser in iOS? If so, how do you turn it off? |

If you're curious VeloViewer...
Despite my best asthma-inducing efforts I remain a solid 50% in the Piece of Something scoring on climbs. Even with wind assistance. We've had an uncommon north wind inversion the past week, perfect to chasing some personal bests on southbound hill climbs. Between the wind and legs feeling much better after resting Sunday, my time improved dramatically on a climb that usually thwarts me. Alas, if I'd gotten my lazy butt out of bed early Sunday I would have enjoyed a 20 mph steady wind, rather than Monday's relatively anemic 8 mph. Might have nudged me into the top ten. Instead, I'm stuck at 12th. And I don't feel a bit guilty about the wind assistance. I noticed a few other folks I follow on Strava, including a local pro, all re-rode that same route to take advantage of the wind the past week! So, naturally, I made zero gains toward the top ten since they're all faster than me regardless of conditions. |

If you're curious VeloViewer will pull and display the actual recorded distance traveled for each segment attempt.
For mountain biking and short road segments, it's a real eye-opener. https://i.imgur.com/UMaYanB.jpg |

<begin Clarkson voice> And I present to you, ladies and gentlemen, the most attempted Strava segment... in the world. 4.8 million attempts.
You have to get out of the real world to find the segments with the most individuals-- I don't think there's a single segment on Zwift's Watopia with less than 90,000 people on the leaderboards. Some of the segments are 800,000 attempts by 150,000+ people. |
It's a paved 1/3rd mile oval. Check out some drone footage and see how many bikes are out on it at any given moment-- but be sure to turn your sound off, the noise of the drone is horrific.
Besides, 600 laps of that is only 200 miles. I've passed my most attempted segment well over 500 times now. I've covered the 1.4 mile wash crossing near my house almost 300 times. |
After that, I change my mind. It is about participants, not attempts.

Is there something about the iPhone being in contact with a pen or a bank card that would cause Strava to act loopy? The two times this has happened I made a stop at the bank and had said items in my back pocket. That's the common denominator. 2 times out of 157 total rides. That's a heck of a coincidence if it was just random. |
Strava acting loopy, or just GPS in general acting wonky? I have one or two days a month where all my GPS apps go screwy. I usually run Strava, Cyclemeter and Charity Miles simultaneously. Most days, no problems. Once or twice a month they fail. No pattern, doesn't matter whether the iPhone is mounted on the bar, in my pocket, in the handlebar bag, next to my wallet or next to my candy bar. I just figure it's weather conditions or those darned Rooskies hacking our fun.
So I started running regular audio updates in Cyclemeter so I'd know whether something failed. I can set it to update every minute, mile, both, and at longer intervals. I usually go for every minute. If it stops I'll realize it pretty quickly and know I need to restart Strava too. |
So nobody's activity feed looks different from yesterday?

My Strava does look different, but it didn't two hours ago. I'm not sure I love it.

iOS app updated, web version remains unchanged. And with the iOS app, only the Feed page changed. Everything else looks as it always has. What an odd update.
|
On Android, just got the update. Activity feed looks cleaner, albeit taking up a bit more vertical space. More space taken up for the map/photos. You can also swipe left/right to view photos (don't remember if that was a thing before the update).
But still no word on uploading photos from PC. WTH Strava? It's one of the most requested features (currently no 14, if you sort by votes on the new features forum)!! |

Agreed. I don't mind the new feed page at all, the thicker font is a bit easier to read, and the scrolling through the pics is nice. But changing absolutely nothing else? WHY

Big 27inch 1920x1080 monitor and Strava thinks I only need to see 1.5 activities before having to scroll down.
Blyuuuckkk. I guess that's the style of websites lately. Probably works fine on a phone but on a proper computer everything is SOOOO BIGGGG. |
