Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Right. Unless you are willing to keep testing the amount of the reserve with incremental bids, I say just forget about it.

The malamute's owner fell and broke her hip. Looks like I have a dog as big as me and stronger to take care of for a while.
On ice too. Lotsa fun.

The other 'fun' ebay thing that I like is the "NO RESERVE!!!*"

*starting bid is $300

On eBay auctions the trick is to realize it is about paying what you want to for an item, not winning a contest. That is why I always snipe, either with eSnipe or on my own. With six seconds to go I enter the top bid I am willing to pay. No one knows I am there prior to that and bids up the price because they are challenged by me. I win about 80% of the time and never feel ripped off. Bidding early and often, essentially asking the other bidders to outdo you, has no upside.

Sure, but at least that is straightforward.

Oh, I know and agree with all of this - I'm just saying that it's dumb from the seller's POV to not get as many active bidders as possible by having a true no reserve.

Yeah, I was never totally sure what a Reserve price meant. I think it means it's the minimum price the seller will accept, and if the winning bid is still lower than the minimal acceptable price then screw it, he ain't selling it (at this time).

The phone is almost fully charged. Breakfast has been et and somewhat digested. It's a partly sunny 79*A outside. And I'm off to see if I can find the elusive passage between Muxupip and the dude ranch. This will be my second try, but the first from this end.

The problem is everybody is familiar with that strategy now, so the last 60 or 30 seconds amounts to a wild west shootout, and whomever's shot strikes just before time expires wins.

Too bad we can't shoot the early trolls.

I'm not a big eBay fan.

Major CL addict, however.

Currently trying not to go get this one.

Yes. She especially needs them to prevent yeast infection when she is on an antibiotic.

Although she seems to be doing well the dr. is not happy with the persistent cough. Says she needs another day or even two in the hospital. Rats.

For the record, as a holder of eBay stock, I would appreciate people not calling it FleaBay or ScamBay or any other disrespectful term. You know who you are, @datlas.

I do however appreciate all who participate in our fine business model.

Back to regular programming.

My Garmin 810 crashed again about 11 miles in to today's ride and lost today's data. Third time in a week or so. I'm doing a factory reset again and if that doesn't handle it, it's going in to the nearest cornfield and getting plowed under.
