Do you cheer for your bike brand?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm very brand loyal. Not just bikes, but parts etc.

I gravitated to AG2R when I had my Focus. Now I cheer for Roman Bardet and wish I could afford a Factor. If they rode my most hated brand, I'd still be cheering for them anyway. I also like looking at the f10s but hate Team Sky.

When a pro team rides Lynskey I'll cheer for them, within reason. I doubt I could cheer for a Team Tampax, for instance, no matter what they rode.

I have felt I never belonged to anything or group in my life. I never feel like I fit in. I don't identify at all with the college I graduated from. My diploma is in a box. I don't identify much with the Marines. My honorable discharge is in a box. I've no emotional bonds to any team, sport, or brand.

So no, I don't "root" for anything or anyone. I like bikes regardless of brand, and will choose a bike based on color and style that's pleasing to me (recently purchased an orange Sprint). My other bike is black (and ugly) and is a brand I've never heard of but I like it a lot. It's fun and gets me outside.

I used to play basketball but could never have a conversation with "fans". I don't watch sports I'm not actively participating in so I no longer watch basketball, never watched football or baseball. My sport viewing now is some skateboard parts that come out, a bit of tennis, and an occasional bike race. But when watching racing I just enjoy the race and don't really inject myself into in any emotional way. It's just people doing some **** that I'm currently into, nothing more.

Same goes for what kind of metal or composite material makes up my bike. Ride what makes your crotch tingle.

i see that DeRosa is again a peleton sponsor, so i could root for the Israelis. Calfee built for Greg but that was short-lived, and quite a while ago. Does Merckx sponsor? Not particularly fond of the Pinarello squad.

On balance, the answer would have to be NO. I root for some individuals and against a couple of teams, but not for bike brands.

Mercury wheels. Mercury is new, small but growing fast.
Builders are salary Utah staff (rare), build to .001 and sign each wheel.
When I see them on the road I find myself curious if KC build those or...

Short answer NO. I do enjoy watching bike races and I like to see all the bikes and the tech they use, but they ride bikes that are in a totally different stratosphere than me, so it is a little hard to relate.

Ive never seen another Merlin in person. But if I did, I would certainly give them a hearty cheer.

I ride a Wilier and a KTM and I rarely ever see either of those in any race, but if I did, I'd probably be excited to see them.. but would I 'cheer' for the rider? I suppose that depends who was riding it, I guess. To me it's more of one of those 'cool to see' things than anything else. I mean if you ride a Specialized or Trek, I suppose it'd be 100x easier to 'cheer' for your brand, as those brands are a dime a dozen and cover a good majority of the market

I've seen both brands under Pro Tour riders.
