I ran a soils and aggregate lab many years ago and we performed several tests where percentages several were calculated on a certain specimen. I used to impress college interns by computing a series of results faster by slide rule than they could on their brand new Texas Instrument calculators that had just come out. Think early 70s.

Killing time because I know my favorite bar tender will be late for her shift. Have to time things so that my walk and dinner shopping will get me there at about 5:20.

And since they're paying for your travel and lodging and you're not expected to be conducting business this is an employer funded vacation, right?
I'm expecting there to be more "medical tourism" between Arizona and Mexico if the work requirements for medicaid go through. LoP has joked about doing it but I'm not sure I ever would. My mom has a friend who's in an LTR with a retired doctor- they can't get married because she's a widow and doesn't want to lose her benefits- and they have most if not all of their dental work done in Mexico. Much of what I hear from people about this is good and maybe Mom's friend cheaped out on hers but such horror stories!

When I was a kid, it went like this:
Dolly Parton had 69 boobs (enter 69), which was 2 2 2 many (enter 222), so she went to 51st street (enter 51) to see doctor x (multiply) who gave her 8 pills (enter 8) and left her (hit equals): 55378008

We still have this fun. We have to enter test transmission patterns in satellite modulators all the time. I guess the industry standard is just FFFFFFFF, but we tend to like B16B00B5.

So the three candidates for the Giants' head coach appear to be McDaniels, Patricia, and Shurmur.
Dear god I hope it's Shurmur. Not, truly, because of my famous hatred for all things M*******, but because the Belichick coaching tree is completely devoid of success. It appears O'Brien may soon be saved by Deshaun Watson, but his leadership skills and football schemes have left much to be desired (that and he still comes with the self-destruct feature Belichick includes in all his coordinators).
I swear, if it wouldn't make @BillyD so happy I'd switch to the Packers for the duration of the Belichick-tree coach. Though that would have the advantage of annoying @WhyFi. So there's that.

Casually Deliberate
Kermit the Frog is on the Ed Sullivan Show. It's very disturbing because not only is he wearing a red turtleneck sweater, he laughs like Cookie Monster.

Yes but how much and to what degree is something I'll have to gather up the information on. And then we run into the problem of whether we're including or the researchers have included ozone pollution as well as particle pollution and realizing that a higher reporting of dementia can be correlated with greater exposure to pollution without necessarily being a cause. That's leaving aside issues such as a community bias against sharing information with one's doctor or with social service or health agencies. Some states are even reluctant to contribute to studies and statistics. The ALA report notes that it is missing all of Illinois, most of Tennessee, and part of Maine. So, this paper may be quite a challenge.
