Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Same. Except pop culture ends in the late 90's for me.

So, not same. Similar? I need to tighten up things here or I will report myself to myself as self appointed quality control director here at BF.

I guess I never had occasion to really think it through, but it is indeed true. When I left the nest in 1970, I left popular culture behind. If I weren't rubbing elbows with you folk, It likely would not have become such a glaring issue. Thankfully you are open minded enough to put up with me.

We had this discussion before, I think. In these parts, probably 80-90% of houses have basements and main floor laundry rooms didn’t really become common until the late 80s, early 90s. Our house was finished in Dec. 1979. We moved in Jan. 8, 1980.

The house is a raised ranch with a fully finished lower level. It’s not really a basement because it has windows and is only about 42” in the ground. That’s where the laundry is. It was a real hardship when my wife and I crashed our tandem. The stairs were a real pain the rear.

Also, I’m tired of the big yard (1/2 acre), septic system, etc. Time for a small yard and city services.

We never had that much land, but wanted less anyway.

This has not been my experience. I suspect I have been lucky in the real estate market / timing.

Our first house / townhome was in Northern California before the internet bubble and our place in Maryland worked out well and seemed to be somewhat insulated from the housing bubble by the DC driven economy there.

Video won't play.

Maybe @LesterOfPuppets can see it though and feel remorse for bailing on stuffing his cheeks.

I haven't had pancakes for weeks.
