Need Help Finding Dropout - 04 Lemond Road Bike

Notices
Road Cycling It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle. -- Ernest Hemingway

Need Help Finding Dropout - 04 Lemond Road Bike

Hey everyone! I've got what I believe to be a 2004 Lemond Nevada City road bike. I'm fixing it up and one of the items needed is a dropout. Using the Derailleur Hanger Quick Fit Finder on the Wheels Mfg site, it recommended "Dropout 49". (Make=Lemond, Model=Aluminum, Year=2004-2005) I ordered one and low and behold it didn't fit. This led me to thinking I was using the wrong year perhaps, but after browsing all of the available Lemond models on BicycleBlueBook, ebay, Google, I feel like I've got the right year. So now I'm reaching out to anyone that might have another resource I could try or know which dropout is the right one.

If I change the year to 2006, it recommends dropout 5, which "looks" like it might be a good fit, so I'm tempted to get one and try it. Including pics below.

Here's a shot of the Lemond I'm working on:

Close-up mine showing the empty Drop Out:

Close-up of a frame I found on ebay that includes the dropout. Contacted the guy to see if he'd be interested in selling the dropout or checking it for a number, but no response

I believe you may get better results if you search for DERAILLEUR HANGER. The dropout is part of the frame. I hope that helps.

I think you have the year right. My records indicate the Nevada was made for four years. 2001-2003 it was a steel frame, 2004 it was aluminum and blue, with white decals.

I agree that #5 looks like it is probably one of the better fits. I'd go ahead and try it. Perhaps you could get a close enough measurement of the hole to compare to your frame.

Actually, I kind of like this one.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Derailleur-...r/400621150744

It appears to be cast, while the Wheels Manufacturing one is machined. That will affect the fit slightly, but it does look good.

Thanks for the manuals, the info and for confirming the year.

I ended up printing out a picture of Derailleur Hanger #5, cut it out, and held it up to a picture of the rear dropout (on my computer screen so I could resize it) and it looks to be a very close match. Ordered one this morning. Fingers crossed that it's the one.

The one I ordered is cast as well. If it doesn't work out, I'll be looking at this one next. Thanks for the link.
