Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Remove Decals Or Not?

Remove the decals on these Zipp 404FC or not? The white decals went well with the previous frame but this replacement frame color scheme is already not as clean looking as it is. I second guess myself a lot so I'd like to be sure before I start peeling.

I'd remove them. I don't think the white black goes well particularly with the yellow black lettering

could go either way really. Its not that the lettering looks bad on it, but it is a busy theme of yellow blue and white. I'd personally take them off. I remember I had white enve stickers on my enve 45's with my black and white supersix. I remember being on the fence if I was gonna do it or not and one day, I just went for it. Once I did it and looked at it, I wish I would have done it sooner.

I was also considering leaving the 404 and firecrest decals at the valve stem so the minimal red logo ties in with the minimal red on the shifters and RD. Might drive my OCD nuts though.

You could pull the big ones off first and see how the little one look then.

Why isn't coloring the ZIPP logos eg. matching blue an option? For a more subtle effect, color them dark gray to match your big chainring.

That’s a cool idea if you match the blue. Even yellow would be cool if you can use match that.

The frame tho...it's very annoying that many manufacturers feel the need to scream their logo at everyone in technicolor vomit...I used to have a 2010 Trek, and I think the frame had the word "Trek" on it in like 8 or different places.

In any case, sitting still I don't think the massive white ZIPP logos look very good on that bike, but there's something kinda cool when the wheels are spinning (preferably at high speed) and the logos turn into kind of a blur of motion.

Remove the logos and give those cable housings a good trim. They stick up way too far.

Sure you don't want to offer a bike fitting to?

In process. Peeling surprisingly easy, even without using heat. I had seen the same color scheme with blue color matched logos and it just didn't sit well. The previous frame had a lot less "Giant" all over it and was much cleaner looking. As far as the cables go, insurance paid the shop for the frame swap so it is what it is for now.

The logos read "STEAL ME."

If the bike is ever out of your immediate control in any public space including locked in your car with glass windows, the decals announce "you can get a lot of money for this one." Bike thievery is thriving business and a bike is a getaway vehicle.

What does that have to do with a bunch of excess cable housing and wheel decals?

Likely the same that is wrong with extra housing, unless you don't like the color.

Agreed! Better without the logo's. I also like the muted logo idea - chainring or contrasting black.

I think the frame looks great - dont be so harsh on it.

There wasn't any question it would look better.
If the bike were all black or charcoal, colored logos might be OK, but I find that it just highlights how hokey the font is on Zipp.
Sorry you lost your original frame: an instant classic, I'd see it at races and it was always the hottest one around.
Now, if you can just get rid of the logos on your cages, you'll be set!

My thoughts exactly. God it looks gaudy.

Next thing we know bike will cover with huge fake gold chains with the manufacturers name in large letters.

Whaaaaat? Seriously?? A hint of paranoid I guess I need to strip ALL the logos off my bikes, because I tend to install high end components because that's the kind of bike I like to build.
