You’ll still need wheels, tires, tubes, seat, post, bars, stem etc. Or maybe you have those additional parts already, but take that into consideration as well. |
I use the current generation tiagra (4700) and it is fantastic. The next level down is Sora and the new version (R3000) is nearly identical to tiagra but 9 speed. It is not much cheaper. Below that there is still Claris (8 speed, older tech). Other brands like micro shift have inexpensive offerings.
Any way you go, building a bike from the frame can get expensive... |

Craigslist a bike. Transfer everything to your sister's frame.
Best cost option. https://boston.craigslist.org/nwb/bi...533637476.html If you need everything, get something like this. Repost frame for $100. |
you will have to decide what type of build you plan to do.
I seen complete 8 speed groups that are listed for under 200 and 10 speed groups for under 300 brand new tiagra in the 300 range is a great value. Finding a donor bike for part is likely the best way to get a complete group, just keep in mind the crank stem and bar sizes you will likely need a complete set of housing and cables also. |
I purchased a Schwinn Paramount series 8 carbon fiber in 52 cm frame, the fork is Giant Alloy something it was 200 dollars, eBay had a 20 percent off practically everything until 11pm probably should have purchased all I need for the build. So I got the frameset for 160 shipped i hope the 52 cm will work? She is 5.4
So far I have : Frameset Groupset Wheels Tires/tubes Seatpost Saddle Stem I need : -Drop road compact? Handlebars/tape -easy to walk in pedals and shoes -is that all? — I saw a full tiagra 4700 groupset sell for 200 about 3 weeks ago on eBay pretty sure it was ‘like-new’..that’s what has me questioning, must have just been a great deal Also I think I want to paint the frame any suggestions on kinds of paint? |
that link for the bike on Craigslist looks like a better option of doing this. If I had to do it over again would have gone that route oh well had a wheelset laying around from swapping my bike’s wheelset out

As for paint- a home job will never look as good as good as a properly done pro job. I sprayed a frame this winter using https://us.spray.bike and really like the results for the cost. I doubt it will hold up as well as properly applied wet paint, but itll be a low use bike and i didnt want to invest much. Good results for pain requires significant prep work and time. The better the prep work, the better the results. The Spray.Bike products are great because tehy dont streak and run and because the spray falls well into tight corner joints. |

Find a powder coat paint shop near you. Powder coating looks awesome on bikes.

i wish i could get it powder coated, since she may not even use the bike as much as intended for now it needs to stay a budget build. once i know she will actually put it to proper use i have less of an issue spending money on it

did i do correct by choosing that frame in 52cm? she is 5.4 will it be the right size i know every frame has different geometry i was wondering if anyone had any information on the Schwinn Paramount series 8 carbon.
|
I don't know that bike, but the frame might be slightly big for her. I bet she'' be able to ride it though. Good luck.
