Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Heading off to Georgetown, KY for a few days of tandem riding at the Horsey Hundred. Van is packed, alarm set, leaving right after my oncologist appointment. Here we go, on the road again...

If we were in a place where hospital spare footage was not so expensive, yes. But we can do a lot better with that space and there’s a good rehab place near us. It might happen, because clients love the idea of it. But if it does happen, it’s a loss leader type thing like Costco rotisserie chickens. The way my pay is structured, I’d rather not have loss leaders in my life, because I personally pay to support stuff like that, out of my own pocket.

Same for dog food. Clients are shocked that we don’t stock 20 different kinds of pricy prescription pet food. Yes, it’s easy money. But we don’t have the space to store it. On a dollar per square foot basis, pet food sales don’t make sense for us like it does for a rural GP or even a speciality hospital in the regions with abundant inexpensive (relatively) land.

Any of you LBS guys know of security (non-)QR skewers that are long enough for a 135 rear plus a few extra mm for a Burley hitch? I bought some Delta 5mm Allen key skewers but they're too short to even engage the threads, let alone get enough threads in play.

Edit: looks like REI has new skewers, also from Delta, that are long enough. They also have some new-fangled security wrench instead of an Allen head. Let's hope I don't lose it.

Good news is I just had a fantastic local ride from home, it's sunny and cool with temps mid-60s. It was just under two hours long and I only took one water bottle.

The not-so-good news is time to head into work.

Work is over-rated.

The consulting gig went very well. I’m not senile yet and could still remember my stuff. Pretty good seeing as how I have been out of it for 10 years. All very friendly. Folks I have worked with for 30 years. Nice.

No, they told me. In fact I changed my last appointment to be right before the move. But I wonder if the order I took to the lab had the right FAX number, or whatever they use.

Witch doctor appointment upcoming! I'll probably get weighed again.

Wow, this week could have been better. Houston trip was successful business wise, but a complete disaster travel wise due to some rookie business travel mistakes. Flights are only a hour, but weather and everything else delayed flights on each end. Kind of miserable. I have to go back the day after Memorial day and I think I'll just do the 5 hour drive instead.

Also, it totally threw off my current exercise routine. I missed the Tuesday gym and last night didn't work out for a bike ride. I will do a longer ride Saturday and maybe get out for a bit tonight.

Uh-oh. Either I need to do some monitor calibration or this is like the "What color is the dress?" thing.
