Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ok so this overnight trip to Santa Barbara for our staycation has been a huge bang for the buck.

This morning took the dogz to the actual dog beach (it turns out yesterday I was not on the dog beach, whoops). Seaside brunch then wine tasting and then chillin in the room for a bit. 4pm late check out.

Tomorrow: Disneyland.

Might get some ice cream before hitting the road.

On Friday my ear mysteriously plugged up. This may be the reason why.

I wouldn't mind frolicking on that beach. Problem is; I am not sure I can frolic anymore. It has been awhile. I certainly wouldn't mind chillin' out there, I know I can do that.

That's one unexpected wave away from doglet being doglet no more.

I have had really good luck with P2M. The things just work. I have 3 of them (mostly because I am lazy and don't like moving a PM between bikes). The oldest one has 4 or 5 seasons on it now and is on the bike I ride most of the time. Nothing but batteries.

Their a la carte pricing rubbed me the wrong way a bit, but I was happy to unbox and see that, despite my refusal to pay for "assembly" or to buy the special assembly tool, they did attach the spider to the cranks, saving me a trip and a beer schtupping of the LBS mechs.

Now to get some rides in.

older. Got it used eBay but truly a perfect fit. Guy selling is same height, same inseam, same arm length. Perfect and I mean bot scratch but perfect condition. Like new. Like perfect. Scrupulously clean. Did I say perfect cause it’s like perfect condition. 1600. Switched over my old campy crabon record 10. New bars seat post and stem. New zips 202 firecrest. All for under 2500. Insider link for Zipps at a fraction of retail.

GTFO is what happened to me 1986 after 8 yrs marriage. She decided she liked woman better. Oh well.
but no matter the cause, the pain is unimaginable. I was a first year surgical resident. The stress of that plus residency was just about enough to do me in. I understood for the first time that I was capabable if anything, that headline news could apply to me. Very humbling and sad. Good luck. Keep riding no matter how down. It was my salvation.

Lunch and then we checked into the hotel- great room on the ground floor across the street from the beach. Patio totally enclosed by a small wall, really nice with the dogz.

Doglet is still on rest, so she hung out on the patio with Mr H, sunning herself in her dog bed. I took Puppy Love to the beach. Her mind was blown. Had too much fun and everything was AMAZING! Covered with sand, needed a bath first thing when we got back to the room.

I appreciate your concern. You are correct I am exhibiting burnout but it is work related and is spilling over into cycling. I am not riding enough due to the workload. The good news is I will be done with the crazy schedule in about a week. Then I will resume my quest for the missing 91 seconds I have been looking for. I could say that you should try to keep up but I am just glad you are back from hiatus to bring your special brand of happiness our way.
