Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Growing up in a house where water was Pepsi, skipping over the soda pop aisle at the grocery store is a pleasure.

Excellent.

Neither of my kids drink ANY soda. We just never have it in the house, so they never really got used to it, and they think the fizz feels funny.

I still want to try the full-sugar coke, but I expect a six-pack will last me a year.

Dumb question, but I know many Addictionites are frequent flyers so you probably know.

My sister has kindly told me she has lots of unused miles in her frequent flyer program and has offered to let me and mrs datlas "use" them.

I told her my guess is these are NOT transferable, but she seems to think she can get the tickets for free using her miles and then give us the tickets.

Is that legit? Semi-legit??

Definitely Legit. Miles are transferable in most programs.

I don't know about "transferring" the points, but she can certainly book tickets for you and your wife using her points. Very common. My dad travels internationally for work all the time and has a ton of accumulated points for America Airlines, he's flown me back home to Miami on his points for family events when money was tight in the past.

For soda, I've never really touched the stuff, but I have developed a taste for that fizzy fruit flavored San Pellegrino, which is pretty much just as bad for you as a soda. It's so damn refreshing after a hot ride, though.

Yeah, that stuff is delicious. It's the added sugar that gets you. You could try some mineral water with a wedge of lime. That really does it for me on a hot day.

What I don't understand is the obsession with LaCroix. My grandma used to have a fridge full of the stuff when I was a kid and I'd never liked it, but suddenly it's trendy again and everyone in my office has a can on their desk most of the day. I get that it's low (or zero?) calories, so that's good, but the taste...

At least it's produced a series of excellent tweets deriding the flavor.

Thanks for the info. Good to know. Now we just have to figure out when/where to take her up on the offer.

I quit my 3 pack habit in 1987, smartest thing I ever did. Which makes starting the stupidest by default.

My fitbit says my RHR today is 54. It also says that my current HR is 48. Makes sense.

I don't remember ever being so wiped out after riding in reasonable conditions. And neither am I so wiped out after my night time rides, but they are, of course, slower as well as cooler.
