Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

3 days of 90+ temps and high humidity here in NJ

Summer has hit here in New Jersey, hot and humid temps (just a taste of what is to come, I think). I have been riding everyday and loving the sweat, keeping well hydrated, but limiting my mileage in the heat. So far I have felt no adverse effects. getting plenty of food on my rides too. I have found that I like riding in the heat. Does anyone else prefer hot weather riding?

It got to 95* here yesterday...freaking brutal to ride in. It seemed to cool off nicely in the evening though and wasn't too bad this morning floating around 70*. It is supposed to get down to a high of 68* on Friday which will seem odd.

Drink lots of water.

Yeah I hear the temps are supposed to drop quite a bit by tomorrow...maybe mid to high 70s, much more pleasant without the high humidity.

Yup.
LOVE it!

You're getting what we already had for a week. Rode every day in it. There's just something about riding in a sleeveless vest...

I hate the cold. I hate winter. I never biatch or complain about the hot. My body just seems loser and good to go in the heat. Maybe it's the parts in my hip replacement?

Hot here at the shore too. Hot wind even which was very interesting to ride in.
Never thought I'd enjoy a head wind so much.
Really, a spectacular balmy nite ride with few cars on the streets and great peeks into some lovely homes. Something I don't see during my daylight rides.

No riding this morning. Instead, I went head first into the ocean for as long as I could stand it... About two minutes. Refreshingly chilling.
I've simply forgotten what winter is like......

I had my best ride ever yesterday in the 90 degree heat out here in SE Pa.

Hey baj32161, I'm not too far from Trenton. Would you like to get together for a ride?

Dante.

The difficult thing for me now is waiting for the heat of the day (late afternoon) to prepare
for the HHH. Can't simulate 100+ degrees and that 5 - 10 degree difference sure makes
a difference.
BTW I'm in North Texas, not too much difference in temps but less humdidity.

Marty

Yep, here too. Nothing like dripping sweat at 7 am from the humidity. I've always been more active in sweltering weather, though. Cold weather just makes me want to bundle up and eat.

I live in Souderton, Pa but my parents live in Levittown, Pa. Right across the river next to Morrisville.

I can come over to you in the city or you can come out here to ride in the country.

Email or PM me.

Saturday, a group of us did the Longest Day ride (208 miles, High Point to Cape May, NJ) in this heat. If you saw an uptick in the Gatorade's stock price, our ride is the explanation. I just couldn't drink fast enough to stay hydrated. Mid-afternoon was spent slogging through the Pinelands in intense sun and headwinds. Now I understand why County Route 563 is affectionately referred to by local cyclists as "Death Valley".

I don't think we've seen sub-90 degree highs for a few weeks here in Dallas. Its got to be about 96 right now. I really can't wait for late July and early August where we start to play the "How many days of 100 degrees can we have in a row" game. That's LOADS of fun.

Hey Marty, where in North Texas are you?

You forgot to mention that we have had some really nice wind to make the 90+ heat even more enjoyable, at least from a biking perspective.

Living in Florida I dont have much of a choice. It was 92 monday, and today seemed even more hot and humid when I rode.

Cooler weather is starting to come in today, but I've been out in the 90 degree heat anyway. Love riding in it, til I have to stop at an intersection...I don't really like that feeling of riding into a wall of fire.
The worst part is the t-storms that pop up so much thru this...really screwing with my riding intentions some days.

Next week...longest day of the year...evening riders, make the most of it!
