Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tires. From the trainer to commuting?

I have Vittoria Rubino Pro tires on my old Centurion, which have served me very well so far. I have mainly been using the bike on the trainer, and to tow my kids trailer. After 325 miles on the road, and 600 miles on the trainer, I have noticed the center tread is not squared, but has a rough look to it. Almost like tiny surface pitting on a piece of cast iron.
The trainer I have, uses one of those red synthetic rollers in the resistance unit, which supposedly allows your tires to last longer. I am wondering if it's not a big deal to use the tire for commuting now. I don't have any spares for it at the moment. I am guessing it would be ok, but thought maybe some of you had gone from the trainer to the road after so many miles and still had good performance out of your tires.

Please opine.

I'd use the tires. Sounds like the surface of the tire just got worn funny by the hot trainer drum. As long as there's still plenty of rubber there, you'll be fine.
