Stupid question for a quick fix

Has anyone ever butted up two sections of brake cable housing to give an extra few inches? It would be under the bar tape so well secured at both loose ends. Doing a last minute re-cable and do not have access to extra housing before tomorrow morning. Hate to rig, but maybe no other choice at this point.

As long as you put a ferrule on each end so that the solid ends but up against each other, it would probably be fine. I wouldn't do it with a shift cable for obvious reasons, but a brake cable should be fine.

It should be fine, but would be bothersome to redo.

If it is only a couple day delay, I'd wait for the proper parts, unless you have a really pressing need to finish the project.

Add interrupter brakes? Inline cable adjusters? Inline cable release?

I agree with above, ferrule both butted ends and be done with it. As long as it’s under the tape, it won’t shift around or kink, which might cause some annoyance.

You don't even need ferrules, as long as you file or grind the ends flat. But make sure the join is on the flat section of the bar.

Also, when you tape the housing to the bar, give the tape a good stretch; it holds a lot firmer that way.

Thanks for the replies. I went for it and had no issues this morning. A little backstory. I'm really interested in aero carbon bars with the compact drop. I bought a Chinese bar to see if I could ride comfortably without an aero bar wrapped on the flats since I don't ride with gloves. A rough week set me behind and I had the Ride Like King with Giant Bicycles event on Zwift this morning. An hour and 20 on the rollers this and it's good so far. Basically I'll end up re-cabling and wrapping the bars in the near future if this test works out. I'm eyeing the Easton EC90 aero bars, any opinions there?

On another note, I wrapped with a new bar tape, some San Marco stuff, and it sucks big time. I usually stick to SRAM Supercork.

I had to have the bike back together to participate in the event. Didn't plan on taking the bar job right up until the last minute.
