Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Got a new ride.

Picked up a second bike. Felt vr5. I was looking for a second bike, something that was more comfy to ride and was pretty much going between this and a new synapse. I ended up catching a deal on the felt so. I decided to go with this, plus the fit was great. I love the hydro disc brakes and the bike rides awsome. My only complaint which honestly is something that bothers me a lot is the bike feels slow climbing and under hard acceleration. I'm not sure how much this has to do with the wheels since they seem to flex some or it's just the nature of this style of bike. But beyhond that I am very happy with the ride quality.

No reason I can think of that any "style" of bike should climb badly. I have a pair of "endurance-geometry" bikes, one in Al and one in CF. The CF bike feels slower than my CF regular-raod-geometry bike ... but its tires are a lot wider and it probably weighs very slightly more. I figure wheel weight is a little higher even though the wheels themselves are 75 grams lighter.

The Al bike is a Lot heavier ... but I kept swapping to lighter wheels and it kept feeling quicker. Possibly heavier, wider, softer tires makes the difference ... I also think heavier wheels contribute a lot to that feeling (and I usually cannot tell much about my bikes by 'feel" so for me to feel a difference is significant.)

You might also look at fork/frame flex and disc rub?

It's funny ... i rode my road bike over a route I usually reserve for my endurance bike last night, and it did seem quicker ... i think it is the soft, fat tires. The only other difference is the riding position (a tiny but more upright, weight a little further back possibly) But the weight distribution should Help acceleration and climbing.

I started this response thinking one thing, and now I don't know what to think.

let me know what you come up with here.

Great-looking bike, btw.

Yeah I was not sure if it's the tires or just part of the attribute of the bike handling. It is very stable. I guess the best way I can describe it is when you pedal hard it feel kind of soft or mushy? My times on it are the same as my other bike when I am trying to go fast. It just feels like I have to try harder on this one some. But yeah no disc rub or anything. But I agree I think it may just be a combo of things like the wider tires and just the slower handling feel and maybe the wheels also. I have lighter wheels on my other bike

It's probably due to longer chain stays. They can make a bike feel less zippy, even though it's actually not.
