Insanity. I'd sooner buy a motorcycle than spend that much money on a human powered bicycle. Think about how many perfectly fine bicycles you could buy before you'd ever get anywhere near the cost of that one bike. Nope. No thanks.

Dean V 07-20-18 07:14 PM

1120gm frame unpainted! Just like a Pinarello. Heavy and expensive.

WhyFi 07-20-18 07:24 PM

If I were going to spend $14k on a bike, it wouldn't be that one. Maybe the pics do it a disservice and but I'm just not feeling it. The close-up of the HT spacer wedge looks like some garage engineering, too.

TimothyH 07-20-18 07:26 PM

IMO the RB1K is nicer.

"... designed to attract attention...." That pretty much sums it up.
If I actually had a $14k budget for a bicycle, I wouldn't be shopping for value, I'd be throwing my money away, and it might as well go to such a bike as any, to be honest. But I'm with @toast3d - you can get a mighty nice motorcycle for $14k. Heck, I'd get a nice motorcycle AND a fancy bike - namely BOTH these two - for the same price as that one bike.

14k you're better getting a custom frame that fits you built up.

And the guzzi (might have to settle for 2nd hand) and the Casati.

trekmogul 07-21-18 01:42 AM

A Pinarello F10 in Sram Red Etap with a set of Meilenstein Obermayer Wheels is closer to 20K, so there is lots of setups in the price range..

I say buy a nice $3k bike, full Rapha kit, upgrade wheels and fly to Italy or France watch the tour for week for the same $14K.
But If i has it I would buy one just because I could.
But insane...

If I had $14k to spend, I probably wouldn't blow it all on a single bicycle.. unless said bicycle was an investment with some sort of provenance. This particular bike will lose half its value in year 1. So, no thanks.

I think the return on investment from such a bike isn't supposed to be long term or in the form of cash, but immediate, and in the form of heads turned and "oohs" and "ahs." I'm pretty sure the Moto Guzzi would give better return in that sense, too. It may only be the V7, but it's pretty flash. ;)

lol Moto Guzzi is probably the last brand that comes to mind when I think about head turning motorcycles

Dean V 07-21-18 01:59 PM

I would like to think that if you had 14k to blow on a bicycle you also have enough for a motorcycle, trip to europe etc etc as well. It isn't an either, or, decision.

 Depends on your environment. I used to have an RSVR - gorgeous bike, fantastic sound (MIVV) - a real head turner just about anywhere. But lately, I've been seeing the V7s around town, and the "specials" are looking really sharp these days and catching my eye. Don't sound so hot, though. ;)

Stratocaster 07-21-18 03:48 PM

Wait - they want over $14K for a bike that's over 16 lbs?
They can keep it!!!
:roflmao2:

;)

Colnago Mixte 07-21-18 03:56 PM

Each bike comes with a free date with Fabio Mario!

All H@TERS.

I own a Trek (stop laughing) Emonda SLR with Sram Red eTap and Zipp 303s. Full retail is close to the above bike. I've also rented a stock Emonda SL6 with Ultegra that I put 200 miles on when i was vacationing in Scottsdale. The SL6 is 1/3 the cost of mine but there is a noticeable difference.

Is the difference worth it... to me, yes. Others will disagree. But then I don't understand why someone will spend $50,000 on a car.

We all make choices. Don't H@TE those that differ from you.

I'm sure you can find many that think you're insane for spending over $600 on a bike.

I just hate on those that don't differ enough - those who just copy or one-up me. It's fine if they have something fancier, as long as they're playing a different game. ;)

A coworker once said to me "But your bike is expensive, right, like $400?". True story.

But also, untwist yourself a bit. No one is "hating" (ugh). We're disagreeing with you. That happens. You say you don't understand why I spent a big chunk on my truck; we're saying we don't understand why you or anyone would spend $14k on one bike.

Colnago Mixte 07-22-18 05:14 AM

"A coworker once said to me "But your bike is expensive, right, like $400?". True story."

A person on this board much wiser than I, once said that when asked how much your fancy high tech carbon fiber bike cost, you should always say "$400". It's enough to make people understand why you value the thing, but it's not so much ($14,000) that they would consider you a complete fool for paying that kind of money for a bicycle. "Aren't those just kid's toys?"

Just to be clear, I know there are bikes out there worth $14,000, but I dare you to try to convince one of your non-cycling friends or co-workers that any bicycle is worth that much.

Close to 20k in this F10 with the wheel set ..

GlennR 07-22-18 06:14 AM

I once stopped at a deli and asked a couple, eating outside, if they'd keep an eye on my bike when I go inside. When i came out the guy said "that's a nice looking bike. How much does it cost? $2000?". I said "it's a bit more". BTW, my bike is satin black with tone on tone logos that you can barely see. Sort of like a rattle can paint so it doesn't look expensive to the uninformed. And i like it that way, no need to attract attention.

That's why I used the term "H@TE". i don't think anyone hates another just because of something they own.

Try convincing them any bike is worth $1000.

es·o·ter·ic
adjectiveadjective: esoteric
  1. intended for or likely to be understood by only a small number of people with a specialized knowledge or interest.
The above reasons is why I rarely tell anyone who asks and is not knowledgeable about bicycles what mine cost. They just don't get it.

Zaskar 07-22-18 01:52 PM

Bob earns $65,000/yr and rides a $2,800 bike.
Tom earns $375,000/yr and rides a $14,000 bike.
Who is spending "too much" on his bike?

(by the way, Tom also has that motorcycle, a few nice cars, a second home, kids' college funded... don't hate Tom )
