Kickr Climb
Anyone else getting one? I've been waiting on it since I first heard about it.
|
Newp. But I don't even Zwift.

I love the trainer. I put on TrainerRoad and watch Netflix.
I also rode COTA in 106* one evening and started my brick run Sunday in 102*, so have a heaping spoonful of HTFU as well. ;) |
I'm at a loss as to why anyone would pay for one of those. Seems to me it's about like putting your trainer bike's front wheel on a stack of phone books. You get the position of going up a hill but it's not going to actually be like hauling your weight up a hill. Maybe someone that has one can enlighten me.

Seems cool, doubt I get one though even though I do own a kickr(which I love) and have 11 thousand kms logged on Zwift. I find with the turbo trainer wide screen tv and computer pushing 4K it’s a immersive enough experience for me |

They just got released this week. It'll take some time to get honest feedback. I'll be hooking up mine tomorrow or Sunday.

I can see it for those who Zwift a lot. If you are doing 2 plus hours on zwift the constantly changing of the angle of the bike could help reduce butt fatigue from being a stationary position for so long. |
I’ve thought about it some more...though you wouldn’t be generating more power even though the front of the bike is at an increased angle, perhaps the muscle fibers recruited would be variable dependent on the angle of the front of the bike. Might also add a little more variety to the trainer experience. Worth the cost? Really hoping to hear from someone that has experience with it. |
What's a phone book? :-)

It's not really that hard to grasp - you're riding up a virtual hill, the smart trainer resistance increases, simulating the work against gravity, the front end rises, simulating the grade which will alter body position and muscle recruitment. It's a more immersive way to while away the trainer season.

As the bike position changes, body position could possibly change. It might help relieve some of the uncomfortableness that siting in the same spot for long periods of time. After about two hours on the trainer, my rear starts hurting. |

Right, the smart trainer already increases the resistance on the virtual hills. I already have the front end of my bike in a climbing position which is mostly the muscle fibers I want to recruit.

I guess it give a more variable position during the ride but I don't think I'd want to pay for it. Still hoping to hear from those that have tried it.

So what, you pause your workout and add/remove phone books based on the terrain on-screen? You don't think that the climb just a wee bit more dynamic than that?

No, I don’t. I have my bike in the position I want it in on the phone books as I wrote above. But hey, the Climb is only $600, you planning on getting one? |

Nah, I don't do that silly faux ride stuff, just intervals.
I'll be in if someone makes a game for the trainer. A game, not a ride simulator. Not a race simulator, either. A game, in the sense that Assassin's Creed or Halo is a game, though those particular examples would not translate well. I want a game that makes me want to hop on the bike to use as a controller, not to try to replicate what happens outside. |
Though it's funny; former trainer-addict me hasn't been using it much between COTA and real weekend rides. That'll probably change soon though.

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...fed075409.jpeg Have only tried it a few times, but I really like the difference and to me it was worth it. Not real life, but definitely better than without it. Larger grades make it really stand out. |
Did a few hours today on a more elevated route and I like the small subtle feeling of the changes compared to the previous static setup.
I feel it could be seen as a little pricey for that difference and for sure not for everyone, but I feel it was worth it for me. |
