Road Cycling ďIt is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.Ē -- Ernest Hemingway

I can't imagine an additional 10 hours of sun exposure would be good for skin aging, but I guess there are ways to mitigate or avoid this.

According to bike commuters every second of every day you're on a bike you can be killed to death from all the cars playing crash up derby in your vicinity. These health benefits "disease-free" are all mitigated by your increased risk of being murdered by some kid on snapchat giggling about cat videos while he plows into your backside.

It was based on a 10-year study of 1,500 cyclists aged 50 and over, in Australia. What a dreary place, they should have done the test somewhere that gets sunshine. Like London, or Seattle.

It's a Catlike. For a hot minute they were all the rage and people in the US were salivating but couldn't their hands on them (they weren't being imported, not sure if that's still the case).

At the minute, the UK is in the middle of a heatwave. And a drought. The usual green rolling hills are now brown. It's been something like 55 days straight with less than 1mm of rain. I think right now we are sitting at 6% of the average rainfall for this time of year. It needs to rain soon.

I don't think the part about snow is right. It doesn't snow every winter, maybe every other year, maybe a little bit less than that. We just get rain most of the time. At least in the snow you can stay dry. The wet just crawls into your bones and makes you cold from the inside out.

Yes, but you'll be killed to death disease free, and fully functional (apart from being dead and rather flat).

Study is in METs. Which are "metabolic equivalent tasks" such that 1 MET = sitting on the couch. And you need a specific METs value, not number of hours. Riding a bike is worth 8 METs, or 14 (?) in some cases, if it's really hard. The problem with this system is riding a bike can be as easy or as hard as you want to make it.
