No hands riding finally clicked!
 

Okay, I just needed to share my child-like new riding skill.

I've always been skittish to let go of the bars altogether, but today on my recovery 50 mile'er I was just playing around and finally got into that 'groove' I could turn corners, keep the bike straight, move back and forth in my lane. It was really, really fun to do, especially on my somewhat skittish Vela. Did it several times, totalling a little over a mile.

Tried it later in 10ish mph winds...and it didn't work out so well. Almost lost it doing that :eek: almost, but not quite.

Anywho, just thought I'd share my new stupid human (bike) trick, and see if anyone else has shared my joy in 'getting' no handed riding.

awesome! It took me a while to get the hang of it on my r800 since the tires are so skinny on road bikes, but like you said, it just clicked and i've been able to do it ever since. I spent half of that ride without hands just because I could :D!

Group riding really helped me get good at balancing quick

I've found my Fuji to be pretty stable when riding no-hands... as a matter of fact, I had absolutely no problems at all riding no-hands the day I got it. I was half-expecting to have to re-learn the skill, but it wasn't so bad. I wonder what makes a bike easier or harder to ride no-hands. Headtube angle?

BFD....Just wait till some road trash or wind flips the front wheel out from under you.No points for lying bleeding on the pavement, and the french judge will penalize you for not sticking the dismount.

Funny, I just got over the no hands stuff today too. Riding back I decided... well I am doing 18 MPH lets try and let go... and the bike kept coasting forward.

Now I can put my hands in the air when I finally win a race...

But be careful... going down sucks... and will make you conciencious about no hands all over again.

yeah... I don't ride no-hands too often... only when I need to dig my cellphone out of my pocket and send a text message to someone :p

We need the video of the guy crashing (when front tire flips sideways) as he throws his hands up almost across the finish line for added visual effect.

Believe me guys, I'm no stranger to bleeding on the bicycle :D

I go down hard offroad at least once every week or two. I'm more worried about scratching the paint on the bike than losing some skin.

I also learned something new today, but I can do it only until I start to lose speed. :(

I start riding real fast and get it up to speed on a flat road. Then I take my hands off and sit back, then I put my cranks horizontal to the ground.

Then I start to stand up. The only way I can balance is having my knees grab hold of the saddle. Surprisingly, I can steer as well! But it all ends when you slow down to 12MPH or so.

I wonder if it's possible to pedal standing up with no hands. Anyone tried doing that? I would like to, but would hate to fall flat on my face going 20MPH.
