Painting Bicycles
Hey guys,
It's been a minute since I've opened a thread here. Here it goes! I am wondering if any of you would know of a good place to start on "how to paint bicycles". All my life I've been drawn to art (especially drawing and painting) and I would like to start painting my own frames. I think with devoted time and patience I might be able to pull some neat frames, starting with my own :). Love the old look of handpainted steel frames and some of the new and amazing carbon frames too! Appreciate any advice in advance. Thanks, Luis |
I have never done it, but look into automative paint. There are single-stage systems and base/clear coat systems.

I have always done rattle can, but to do anything right you would want an airbrush. otherwise ... it is just painting. More chance for runs and drips with all the weird angles, and hard shapes to work with, but peple do it ... you are a person (I assume) ergo---you cna do it.
Pick up some trash bikes (literally bikes from the trash,) clean them up, and shoot away. I recommend Citristrip (CitriStrip) for removing skin and paint in an environmentally sound fashion. That and Naval Jelly and steel wool and a good wire brush, sandpaper, some polishing wheels on a drill .... |
