How's your blood pressure?

Years ago when I had a physical after many years of neglect a jackass of a doctor told me I was hypertensive, or at least, pre-hypertensive, and that I'd probably be on some kind of meds for the rest of my life. No, he didn't consider other options, like changing diet, lifestyle, exercise, weight loss. Just meds.
I did manage to change my diet and lifestyle, exercised, and lost close to 40 lbs over the next six months, and my BP has been great ever since. Never saw that doctor again.

Now that cycling has taken off those pounds and fixed my blood pressure, doctors always seem happier to see me.

I imagine doctors don't have a lot of hope for people changing their lifestyles. When I was first diagnosed with high blood pressure the doctor said he wanted to try changing diet and exercise before prescribing medication. I told him to pretend we tried that and failed. "Go ahead and pill me up, doc!" were my exact words.

I take 10 MG of Lisinopril daily which keeps the ol' BP around 125/70.

When I’m at the doctors office, mine is always high (maybe like 130-140 over 90). And my pulse will be at least 140. It’s ridiculous. But I think germs are everywhere in there, afraid to touch stuff. They always think their finger thing is wrong, so they recheck my pulse manually. Every. Single. Time.
My resting rate is normally around 59. It doesn’t normally go above 110 or so unless I’m lifting or exercising.
Ive always wanted to measure BP at home while relaxed to get an accurate picture of what it really is.

Just came back from a 162.2 km ride (my first century ). Avg moving speed was 26.1 km/h. Took my pressure 2 minutes after I got home. Blood pressure was 108/68 with a HR of 113. Took it a minute after that and was at 110/70 with a HR of 109. Avg HR during the ride was 148. My 2 minutes HR drop was 36.

I always ran 120/80 which my Doc said was normal but lower was better. At 35 it started creeping a little to 125/90 sometimes. At 37 wife and I switched to Whole Foods, plant based diet. At 42 I’m usually around 100/70 now. I couldn’t believe the BP change I saw from a cleaner diet.

By the numbers then?
Problem.
Solution.

Anywhere between.... 120-130 / 70-80. Both sides of my family have naturally high blood pressure so there was no way to avoid it. I've been on 20mg Lisinopril (without diuretic) since my late 30's. It does a good job of keeping blood pressure at normal levels. It's cool how Lisinopril is derived from very low traces of snake venom.
