Newbie question on cycling shoes, cleats, and pedals -- shoe popping out
I'm getting setup with shoes and clipless pedals and had a question about pedal/cleat types. I have shoes with SPD cleats, and I picked up a pair of used pedals from Working Bikes in Chicago (challenge here is the manufacturer information is all worn off). Went for a ride and the cleats sort of worked, but they popped out fairly often.
When I looked closely at the pedals they match standard Shimano/SPD ones almost exactly, but on the back edge they are straight and do not have the curve/cut-out, so it makes sense that they would not stay locked in.
Any idea what type of cleat I'd need for these pedals? They look like standard MTB pedals in terms of size and are dual sided (clip in on either side).
Thanks much!
Graham

Can't see the pedal from here. Suggest you purchase new Shimano SDP pedals. They usually come with Shimano cleats.

They may be older Richie or other not-quite-compatible pedals. Not worth the uncertainty to find cleats.
Better to chalk it up and get new Shimano pedals- they don't cost much.

This. You can get M520 with cleats for around $25 online. There are usually plenty of used ones on eBay for less but you usually won't get cleats when you buy used .

OK -- got around to taking a couple of photos this weekend. Could these be Ritchey HT M1 pedals? I'm setup now with Shimano SPD pedals and they work great -- no issues with popping out. The ones below are interesting because of the straight back edge, which doesn't work with the SPD cleats. Any idea on the brand and model?
