Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

On a positive note, I was able to help one of our riders today. She is a triathlete who was riding her road bike with Zipp 404s and got a pinch flat (courtesy of a pothole). Her spare tube valve barely poked out of the valve hole. I always carry a valve extender with me which saved the day!

Is she the one who likes to walk around naked? And whatever happened with that?

Going to my worthless* family doctor and then for a ride.

I call her worthless because she doesn't do anything except refer one to a specialist. She has no talents of her own, evidently. Kids... sad.

My old doctor would do just about anything in the examination room except a heart transplant. I'm jesting of course but it's amazing all of the things that he routinely did that my new young doc doesn't.

Need ear wax removed? See a specialist.
Check this mole? See a specialist.
What about this? I have a specialist you can see...

BITD when I went to see an ENT (ear, nose, throat specialist) he did all kinds of treatment procedures in the office that you just don't see anymore. Now it is just take a look and write a prescription or schedule a procedure two weeks away in the day surgery center. One time he vacuumed out my sinuses to get rid of the mucous accumulation. And, of course, he lanced my ears right in the office with no anesthesia. Right then after seeing the abcess he would just lay me down on a surgical bed and go at it. There just wasn't any anesthesia being used in those days for that kind of thing. He kept a series of spray bottles that connected to an air compressor next to his examination chair and was always spraying something in your nose or throat. A spritz of cocaine was not uncommon to open you up or treat a painful sore throat. Ah, dem was de days. Funny, I remember one time he had me drop my pants in the hallway to give me a penicillin shot on my way out of the office. Fun times.

Different one. The one who likes to walk around naked is too busy with CX these days. I believe she won the state CX title for her AG. She does promise to resume riding with us when cross season is over.

So our new cat is lots of fun. When she gets very playful she sometimes likes to nip. I know she does not mean anything by it, but I wonder if there is a way for her to learn not to do it. Any ideas?

One of our cats bit my nose, to wake me up, once. I threw her across the bedroom. She never did it again.

Once stepped on a cat at the top of the stairs, 26 stitches, and a concussion later, I still hated that cat.
