good idea...i'll be interested in other's posts as well.
i like to ride out to brighton beach when i'm in brooklyn. only on a sat\sunday morning though, as traffic along coney island ave can get a little hairy. on the weekend though it's a straight shot and if you catch the lights right you can cruise for a while. i like this route because of the wind. if you find yourself stuggling at 18 mph don't worry - chances are on the way back you'll be able to hold 25+ no problem.
7 miles each direction from prospect park. i like to combine it with PP loops since those can get pretty dull sometimes by themselves.

for the city itself, you've gotta have this map (available in most all bike shops)...

One of my favorites from the city is The Piermont Run. From Manhattan make your way across the GW bridge and over to the Pallisades State Park. There is a road that runs along the hudson river through the park on the Jersey Shoreline from just south of the GW ten miles up where it joins route 9. It's pretty hilly with great views of the river. Next turn north on 9 and follow it to Piermont, which is few miles south of the Tappan Zee bridge on the west side of the river. There you can get some coffee and a bagel and head back to the city. From my place it's a 48-50 mile trip. From Piermont you can also keep going along route 9 to, say, Nyack to extend the trip even further. I have ridden north all the way to Bear Mountain, which is very nice. Another nice ride from Manhattan is to ride north on Broadway until it turns into route 9a, going through bronx, yonkers, and weschester county. You will pass through Sleepy Hollow, Tarry Town, Croton-on-Hudson, etc... You can ride as far north as Putnam and beyond and take the metro north train back to the city.
