Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Oops! ...I did it again

I got rewarded again for riding my bike today, this time for riding against a stiff headwind. During lunch, I started out climbing hills and headed east across town. Wind-aided I easily cruised on the hoods above 20mph. On the return trip, the gust was pretty stiff and I was forced to pull all the way in the drops, head down and watching the road ahead as best I could.

Coming up to an intersection, I caught out of the corner of my eye a wad of cash lying in the street. I circled around real quick, saw that noone was looking for their money and scooped it up. I didn't bother to count it but knew I'd at least be able to put several gallons of gas in my car.

After arriving at the office and putting my bike away, I got the cash out of my jersey and started counting the bills... totalling over $250!

OMG... I thought about putting the lost cache in the want ads, but that could lead to a lot of headaches. I thought about the Recycler, but there is no lost and found section. I may still decide on Craigslist, but the person may not know to look there and I'd get a lot of false claims.

Anyway, I may just put it to good use... on my new dream bike

The bills were in a money clip, BTW. No ID or any other marks on the money clip.

u could place an ad or notice for a lost money clip w/o the money and see wat happens but chances are the owner won't ever see that ad and u'll just have to keep the money

Yikes, that is a sticky one. Not enough $$ to call a local tv station, but enough that you might feel a twinge of guilt.
I'd say spend it and forget it.

think of it this way: why do people need $250 in cash in a money clip for? most likely answer is to buy drugs. by spending the money on cycling stuff, you are helping to keep drugs off the streets. thanks for doing your part.

Good idea. I live in LA so I may donate some to The Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition and learn more about them.

Well, the money wasn't found in Culver City, LOL. But, if the guy can describe the kinds of bills and the exact description of his unusual money clip, I'll be glad to hand it over. I will set a time limit for the request of 1 week. If noone gets it right, it goes into my new bike and the advocacy group.

Also, the "I did it again" part refers to another time several weeks ago when I found a $20 bill after riding to the top of a hill. I started a thread seeing if anyone else found anything after a hard climb or ride:

I've found several bags of pot . . . usually in little pouches . . . occasionally with the pipe and lighter.

Get stoned. Lose stash.

Last one . . . I 'donated' to a buddy of a buddy who's ill from chemo due to a brain tumor. F the Supreme Court on this one

I have ridden in Brentwood, up and down San Vicente. I love that loop, so smooth, especially when you start jamming downhill towards Ocean.
