Wish me luck
After speaking with my LBS, I've decided to go ahead and strip my OCLV down and send it in for warranty work (the BB shell has come unbonded, and the cranks shift around and creak while pedalling). The manager at the shop said the last two bikes he sent to Trek were back in around 2 weeks, so I've decided to send it in now rather than riding it through the season.
While I'd be perfectly happy with a good repair, I'm hoping that Trek will say, "Hmmm, this bike is 12 years old and has been well used. Better give him a new frame and not chance it." The LBS owner said it could go either way. Got my fingers crossed.
For now, I've moved my wheelset, crank, and octalink BB to my spare bike (the old square taper that was on it is REALLY flexy) so I should be set until I get the OCLV back.

Trek still warranties a 12 year old bike....that's nice.
If they send you a new frame then you'll be in position to pimp it out with some new parts maybe?
I hope a new frame regardless.
Good luck.

Don't think I'll need to pimp the frame out much. I just threw a new 9-sp DA group on it last season, so all that stuff is pretty fresh.

As much flack as trek gets I'd love to have a Trek CF frame (I don't care that every else has one). If I bought one on ebay whether used or new do you know if the warranty covers the second owner? (I can find this out easily myself, but if you happen to know offhand go ahead)

The TREK warranty is for the original owner only. What my LBS said is that TREK tracks this by serial #. When the LBS sells a TREK, they are "supposed" to send in your information along with the serial #.

I think all trek OCLV frames have lifetime warranties.
