Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Irony of Mclaren partnering up to improve the aero of a road bike is that Mclaren are one of the worst teams in F1 now principally because they can't figure out the aero regulations and are making cars that are too draggy and inefficient.

Not that unusual. The costs would never go down, but the marketing value might, if the team didn't keep winning. go out on top. makes sense.

They could team up with a big pharma company to spread the costs---of sponsorship, I mean.

It will certainly be difficult to replace a sponsor willing to spend like Sky.

The mind boggles. McLaren has shown an amazing level of aerodynamic and engineering ineptitude in F1 for a number of years now. This smacks a bit of, "We can't do it in F1. But surely we can compete in bicycles! ANYONE can make a fast bicycle!" Jumping the shark.

(Reminds me, a bit, of how SRAM tried for a decade to make a functional front road derailleur and, failing miserably at that, decided to promote 1x drivetrains!)
