2006 cosmic carbones and carbon brake pads

Anybody seen the 2006 cosmic carbones? --->http://rouesartisanales.over-blog.co...le-466184.html
They are definitely very sweet. Im thinking of getting a set when they come out next year, but I am in a bit of a fix. I own many sets of wheels with aluminum brake tracks, and I would like to be able to switch between a carbon rim and an aluminum rim....I hear conflicting reports about this. Some people say that you can use one brake pad for both carbon and aluminum. They seem to suggest using the new Zipp carbon/carbon brake pads which are advertised as being capable of braking on alu and carbon surfaces. Can anybody clarify????

When I bought my TT bike with a new set of Zipp 999's, I also got the zip brake pads. The bike came stock with a standard wheelset, and the carbon pads work fine on both the aluminum rimmed set and the carbon rims. Dura-ace makes a similar set of pads.

I can not imagine how much those wheels are going to be, my al carbon versions were expensive. It is my understanding that you need to use the special carbon brake pads in order to no extensivly wear the brake pads.

58vw...will they be more or less than the TT frame you also bought??

Generally you don't want to use the same pads for carbon and aluminum rims, the brake pads can pick up bits of aluminum which will "greatly increase carbon rim wear." Just get some cork pads and throw them on when you race the carbones and no worries.

I wonder it they will make a clincher version, those are probably tubular.

I think when you are paying that much for a set of wheels, you should suck up and learn to glue tires and get the Tubular version. If you don't want to glue, you can always use the tufo glueing tape.

When I get my high-end racing wheels at the end of summer (probably 404s), they are going to be tubulars.
