Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The problem with Texas is the winters are too long and cold.

Well, that's one of the problems. The others are more P&R.

You should ask @seedsbelize if there's any good deals on real estate in his neck of the woods.

BTDT, never again. I won't even go home for the holidays. Land north of the Mason-Dixon line is unsuitable for human habitation between October and April.

Heh. I went to boarding high school in Western Mass. Everyone kept talking about how cold and snowy the winters were going to be. The first two years were not bad at all. Junior and senior year sucked. My first class was usually at 7:50 a.m. I remember my hair freezing walking the long distance from my junior year dorm to the science building for chemistry. During one storm the school actually closed so employees who did not live in town could get home. And the snow usually didn't melt much. The only upside was that when the expansive lawns between buildings were covered with snow you were allowed to cut across them on foot rather than take the paved paths that bordered them.

I've dedicated these last few days of March and all of April to becoming accustomed to riding a loaded bike. PSA-- If my body is any indication, it's a lot more work carting around just 15 pounds extra on the rear rack.

Both of those look like they would have suitable climates. Might be a little less nice than Austin in a bunch of other ways, though.
