Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't recommend reusing chain link pins.

I just heard from the mechanic. He confirms the leak is from the water pump. Says it needs to be replaced along with the hose underneath it, which is cracked.

Cost is $450. Mrs datlas is going to be on me to get rid of the car.

Sad!

$50 in parts.
$40 in tools.
Plus a wonderful day full of swearing in the driveway...

And you could Save our Saturn.

Maybe have some SOS shirts printed.

I would need an assistant to do the job, I have bad arthritis of wrists both sides so torquing things is a challenge.

Wife was going to watch the football, but the cable service went down or the box fried itself. Doesn't sound like she missed anything much.

Say, I have what appears to be a sticky piston in one of my hydro calipers. It causes a slight tick after braking, which goes away gradually. Is there an easy fix?

the payback on that 450 is one month without a payment. Risky? You decide.

Hit it with some Clean Streak (bike friendly) or brake clean (more caustic) and work the piston manually.

Thanks, RJ. I figured it was something like that, but I was worried about damaging the seals with unfriendly substances.

I haven't had any issues with Clean Streak. Haven't used automotive brake clean on a bike.

Next time it will be the Johnson rod. And then the transmission cooler. You need to decide when to stop.

Is a Johnson rod like a Jefferies tube??

Kidding aside, I am agreeable to occasional routine maintenance and modest cost repairs. A large repair (eg >800) is likely going to be a deal breaker.

Next question....Civic or Fit??

It ranks as one of the best Superbowls I've ever seen. I also enjoy watching a no-hitter. Of course it helps when the good guys win. Just flat out quality play throughout.

That argument hinges on her estimate of the intrinsic economic utility of having a newer vehicle. In my experience, that quantity is gender-divergent.
