Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeah, you can always do planks, one of my personal faves.

Gonna see if we had better exposure on something else last night. The moon is a lot harder to photograph during an eclipse than I'd expected (being in a shadow and all).

Totally forgot that when I stopped into Whole Foods on Friday, 76-ers star Ben Simmons walked right by me. I am 6'2", so its odd when I am in the presence of someone so much taller than I am. After he walked by, a female companion who had gotten separated scampered up to him. I am pretty sure it was Kendall Jenner, who he is dating.

I wonder if Shimano 5500 shifter and an early Superbe rear derailleur would index well...

Nice moon shot.

I was tempted to set up for the shot, despite how late it was going to develop (12:46am) and despite how bone-chilling cold it was (10°). But when I saw it was straight overhead in my location I threw in the towel - that's too much adversity to deal with. I'll catch the next one, even though it won't be a super blood wolf moon.

My best PA BB related brush with greatness was back when I was working in a gas station convenience market in Lake Oswego, OR, I rang up Maurice Lucas on a handful of occasions.

No pics for me, either. It was actually cloudy here!!! I looked up a couple of times from the back yard ( I didn't wanna get run over - https://komonews.com/news/nation-wor...Zx2xfD4MZwmOrE )

Ramona got some phone pics from our Wolf Moonrise hike up the hill.

Much luck was involved here. That was about 10 minutes of effort, and we had clear skies and like 34 degree weather. It was so damn dim I had to do longer exposures than I'd expected, and there's a loss of sharpness and added noise because of that. Next time I'll be better prepared.

Obligatory shot of the tired kid and wife:

My youngest had already fallen asleep by the time totality rolled around.

Still, pretty good for a completely unprepared shot on a whim. Big-ass telescope helps. But this picture is nowhere near the capabilities of that thing.

Pretty crazy last day at Performance. But if fizzled pretty quickly.

I wound up with a pair of these for $18 https://www.amazon.com/Mavic-Crossma.../dp/B019Y7X060

And a Deore/Rhynolite front wheel for $10, and a buncha tubes for $0.69 apiece...

Here's what was left by 12:13

And 1:25

Heh. When I was in college, the faculty member who ran my college house was a law professor who specialized in entertainment/sports law. At one point he was representing/counseling Lucas on some matter. Lucas came to visit one evening. I was hanging out in the dorm lobby when he walked through after leaving the professor's digs. Imposing looking guy. Lucas, as you probably know, was on the -'76-'77 championship team that beat the Sixers 4-2 after losing the first two games in Philly. It was heartbreaking. Lloyd Free (later World B. Free) was on that losing team.

Those nearly dead bike shop shots are depressing as hell. Not that I was a huge fan of performance, and I'm not sad to see them go, but there's just something about seeing things that barren.
