Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You know, I can sort of see their point in general. Storage costs money and apparently advertising income wasn't getting it done. They've been around a long time and I wouldn't be surprised if they have over a million subscribers, maybe way more, I don't know. That's a lot of storage space required.

I started thinning my photos out a few weeks ago and now I'm under a thousand. A lot of that stuff was just hogging space because nobody was going to be looking at them anyway. My photos are backed up on external drives, and now that BF has provided a real convenient feature for sharing photos from your computer I rarely need online storage. So I'm good until the next crisis.

In my case, they were auto-uploading every pic from my iPhone into a separate album that I didn’t know that I had. So, I had around 3500 photos when I personally had only uploaded 800. I just found this out last week. In the last day or two, they stopped allowing uploads if you have over 1000 which I do because of the auto-upload that I wasn’t aware of. The auto-deletion comes the 4th or 5th like you said.

Anyway, I finally found out how to stop the auto-upload and then I decided to delete the pics in the auto-upload album to get back below 1000. When I did that, it deleted those and everything else. Must have been an error on my part. Regardless, I quit and deleted the apps on my iPhone and iPad and the links on my desktop.

I feel you. Years ago I downloaded the their auto uploader onto my iMac because it was billed as an easier way to upload large groups of photos. It instantly started uploading all my photos from my computer, which is not what I wanted. My GF at the time worked in tech and even she had to chat with Apple to figure out how to un-install it. Most annoying.

Quality.

"Facts don't do what I want them to."

Quality. The live version from "The Name of This Band is Talking Heads" is probably my favorite of theirs. Unfortunately, when it was finally released on CD they cut out the musical introduction to the performance of that song.

Interesting tidbit about the name of that album. A pet peeve of Byrne's (who can routinely be seen cycling around Manhattan) was people calling the band "The Talking Heads." After all, you don't call Led Zeppelin "The Led Zeppelin." So they purposefully left the "the" out of the album title.

Flickr has to be one of the least intuitive apps out there. It's like they deliberately made it difficult to change anything .

But I still shaved a few minutes off of my first attempt at the climb. I'm WAY down on the rankings, but it's also kind of silly to look at the rankings on Zwift when people's setups are so questionable.
I like to assume everyone else on zwift is cheating. That way I feel great about my own performance (if you can call it that).

I haven't zwifted in a year though. I need to start again. I've got a trainer tire ready to put on.

The real problem is my wife has kicked the activity out of the bedroom, and I have no idea where I can setup again with a TV for the screen.

Trails opened yesterday, so I may just hit the MTB this weekend. Although, if I had to guess, there will be 1500+ riders out there in the morning (all pent up from the rains, and this trail opens before every other trail in the metroplex).

And really, this context is what rubs me (and many others in the same position) the wrong way.

I had a Flickr Pro account for a long time. then they refocused and provided 1TB of storage and actively encouraged people to drop their Pro account. So, like many others, I did. And now the new owners are trying to extort those that have uploaded more than 1k photos - pay us or your oldest photos are gone - and saying that it's all about that storage.

Now, they're encouraging people to use their 1k photos to the fullest by not capping upload resolution at a time when it's not uncommon for a camera to spit out 20mb jpegs. IOW, quick math says they're totally cool with storing 20gb or even 50gb per user. Okay, but I had 2k photos on there and was using less than 1gb of storage, but I've gotta pay up because it's all about the storage? Yeah, I'll pass.

Sweet!

I cant get my wife to go to Peru. It might be because a friend of ours got a nasty parasite infection and spent several days in a hospital. Even then, I still want to go.
